So - to the OP - I'd still stay somewhere else, but would certainly call & ask the GM if he did the formal request, had the reg'l vp sign off on it, etc, and that if he hadn't followed that, that you WILL be notifying HQ of his non-compliance w/ policy in denying you the Plat override.

Cheers.
Find out the name of the regional VP. Call him and express your displeasure with him as well.

One word of caution. I've called one of the regional VP's in the past and he promised action and did nothing. Cost Marriott almost two years worth of business in combination with two or three other issues when it became apparent that Marriott did not really have control of their own program.....

It will not take much for me to walk from Marriott again as for as I'm concerned. I'm simply not inclined to support a company that does not live up to it's word regardless of the many positives I find with giving them my business.

the hotel just needs to keep very close watch on their inventory...things usually work out (just like with the airlines)

wow you folks are active on a Saturday afternoon...hopefully you're not too bored and stuck from the snow (thankfully I'm too far South today for anything cold to bother me-matter of fact the only thing cold is the thing in my hand but that isn't bothering me)

Be safe everyone

So they don't have the ability to turn it off themselves, but do they have the ability to require a minimum stay?

Just for giggles I just booked a room for the week. There was no mention of a PLT override on the reservation like there would be normally. Something smells badly about the whole thing.

OP, PM me if you want the reservation number. I'll keep it for a couple of days before I cancel it.

I asked the GM why you can book a 7 night stay without concerns for being sold out but not a 2 night stay within that period.

I just got:

Hi xxxxxx, we had some cancellations for 2-13-10 and were able to get you in.
I see our FOM was able to get you reservation in this morning.
I'm back on property now and will be here throughout the night as we brace for the 2nd half of the snow storm. Hope you are well and getting through it ok.
Looking forward to your arrival.

================================
I'm a little scared of being treated badly when I come since I got corporate and his mgr involved. Starwood had no issues getting me a room but it would be a few blocks away from the Casino. The Courtyard is a block away and AC is not a place you want to walk a few blocks.

Either way I'm very happy I'm a Starwood Platinum since I realize Marriott Platinum is worthless except for more pts. They only put you on top of the waiting list for a soldout hotel not force availability.

By the way thank you everyone for the advice. I don't think I could of gotten the room without everyone's advice and help.

I call it a fact of life. Marriott has decided that plat business is so important, that it's worth the very rare instance of actually walking another guest and paying for it. Since even an oversold hotel rarely has to walk a guest (due to no-shows), accommodating a plat (at rack rate, no less, which is what we're supposed to pay when using the override) doesn't really cost much.

But now I agree with the OP--I wouldn't stay there because I figure I'd have been pegged a troublemaker. They'll charge top dollar and then provide minimal service (crummy room, etc.). But, just out of spite, I would keep fighting it with Marriott corporate and then when they finally cave I would tell them "Sorry, since this took so long I booked a room at the Sheraton instead. I would really rather have given Marriott my money, but you simply made it too hard." And I would probably follow-up with a letter (not a phone call or e-mail) to J.W. explaining exactly that.

[QUOTE=welookgood.com;13339797]I just got:

Hi xxxxxx, we had some cancellations for 2-13-10 and were able to get you in.

Hello? The only reason they're giving you the room is because they had cancellations, not due to the Plat override & what you're entitled to.

If it's more convenient stay there, but track if there are problems (legit ones, not looking for anything that might indicate revenge cuz you're super sensitive). My guess is you've contacted the guy often enough that he might actually treat you well - or if he's as clueless as he's been up to now, he might act as though he did you a favor which would be irritating.

I still think you should contact HQ (aka, the big guy) & find out if this hotel had a corp-approved waiver or if the GM was just milking the we're busy on a weekend. If it's the latter, HQ does need to know so they can train him properly.

Truthfully my guess is that because he said they didn't want to walk guests who have ressies, he just doesn't get the Plat override. But he may not understand inventory management either cuz usually there's some cancellation, and if there isn't, easier to walk a non-elite than an elite.

PS - Now let's get to the REAL issue - are you serious about staying in Atlantic City for Valentine's Day weekend???? Dude, that isn't the most romantic place that comes to mind. I'm just sayin...

Cheers.

On closer look for the reservation they gave me double bed though my profile says king/queen. I really think they will give me the worst room possible upon getting there (not like I am asking for an upgrade with 2 room types king or doubles) or peg me as a troublemaker.

AC.. Well I don't go there so often, so it would be different. I was originally going to go to FL but the flights are very expensive. If the flights go down in price, I would gladly go. For example NY-MCO or FLL was about $200 in October, now the airlines are asking $450-550. Which at that point is Caribbean money. I won't pay more than $300 to get to FL. Plus the gaming at AC gives me something to do.

I do believe you have just hit the jack pot...... They have just violated the second benefit of being a PLT.....guaranteed room type. Make em pay because it is clear they have no clue on what the program is. ^

Unfortunately, at the CY king rooms are a different room type than 2 queens/doubles so it won't qualify for the room type guarantee.

OP, you're entitled to a King bed. Someone needs to educate this GM, and since Marriott seems unwilling to do so would you mind posting his name and email address?

Not sure, but I think that's a violation of FT TOS.

Cheers.
