I take EVERYTHING I just said about USAirways customer support back! I just called back to check on one of the flight times and was told that the reservation that I have on hold.... that I have a confirmation # for.... that I can look up on THEIR system.... is not a valid reservation!!! I was now told that if they tried to book it, they would not be able to because it is invalid..... Now I'm pissed off!
I asked the lady what would have happened if I had booked it with the last person and her response was AND I QUOTE "well did you?" ... She wasn't budging so I told her I wanted to keep my invalid reservation on hold and I would call back later! So to ask those FT'ers out there with experience....on a star alliance award flight are you allowed a stop-over of over 24 hours within the same region?!? The first CSR said she would have to check, came back and said she could do it and we put together this itinerary.... the 2nd time I called just to double check a time, told me you couldn't and that the reservation that I have a confirmation on hold for, is invalid.... Can anyone clarify? |

The layover part was the part I was least familiar. Not sure about the rules on those. Could they route you from your stopover point to Thailand and back home? It would cost 2 one way tix to sfo. Could be a possible work around.
Worst case scenario, we'll do the 2, 1 ways to the stopover point as you suggested if possible! If I had to, I could use Southwest Awards that I have sitting to get to my destination but I can't book that far out... I'll let you know... Thanks! :) |

On hold with a 3rd CSR now with no mention YET of it being invalid... I'm on hold while she checks something out... The funny part is I can pull up the "held" reservation right now and everything looks copacetic to me.

If I had to, I could use Southwest Awards that I have sitting to get to my destination but I can't book that far out... I'll let you know... Thanks! :) The reason being... SFO and LAX are considered gateway cities for international travel. Normally you are not allowed to "stopover" for more than 24hrs within any one region, however, in the case of SFO and LAX that is NOT the case!!! I spoke with 2 supervisors (1 being a rate supervisor to confirm the amount of points) and both confirmed it with notes and initials... I even had them read back the exact note, on the exact line... each of them separately! Just thought this may be important to others out there about SFO and LAX being gateway cities.... I hope all is legitimate! Thanks! :D |
What routing / airlines have you ended up on?

--------------------------------------- USAirways JFK > PHX > SFO 4 night stop over Asiana Airlines SFO > ICN > HKT ---------------------------------------- Return ---------------------------------------- Thai Airlines HKT > BKK > FRA Lufthansa FRA > JFK ---------------------------------------- That's a lot of travel when I type it out.... At least it's all Business and First Class |

In case anyone was still having this question... Since this thread was old, I called the PP number and the CSR literally said "that's the strangest question I've ever been asked.... I don't know". He was very nice and proceeded to call Marriott Rewards (which I realized I should have done in the first place). He put me on hold, came back and said "you've got us stumped... give us a few minutes and I'll get right back to you". Two minutes later he came back and said no problem.
So while it still sounds a bit dicey, it also sounds like it can, and should, always been done pretty easily... for now |

This is why people love buying US miles when they have the promos...and for crediting to the program. Glad it worked out. Nice itinerary and mix of airlines. Sometimes you get somebody who pulls the around the world card on something like this if you look at you itin.
But has you learned, it is all about agent roulette with US. Cheers. Lesson learned! By the way, what do you mean by "pulls the around the world card"? |

It's legal in this case because you never backtrack on your itin, but based on your experience people make up rules. Glad to be of help. Cheers. |

I should just be happy, but that little nag inside my brain is pissed I missed the promo... Would be First Class the entire way with the bonus miles instead of Business/First mixed. But I'm very happy! Thank you for all of the help everyone! |

We did this. When I told you about my two Cat 7 certs I used in Italy, one was a Cat 6. They let me upgrade for the point difference. I totally forgot we did it. Very easy. I think Marriott works to meet any need it can for you in the program.
Here's my question -- one can upgrade the cert for the points difference, but now is one gets a Cat 7 or Cat 8 cert, and if one holds the Marriott Visa, one is to get a points refund -- has anyone tried this and accomplished the refund? Marriott Concierge?? |

Mr. Vker, thanks for resurrecting and adding to the old thread.
