Thank´s to both of you for taking the time to respond!

my guess is most of these are the hotel portion of a travel award. Fully transferable, they can be "gifted" to anyone. The person who is asking to exchange this used about 270K marriott points and got 120K miles transferred to his favorite airline, and has the use of a week stay in a cat 1-5 hotel.
The master list of successful trades lists 2 AA VIPs for one cert and 75k AA miles for the other cert. Is this still a realistic/up-to-date figure for a fair trade? What would you consider a fair deal? (obviously everyone values things differently, but I´m just trying to get a rough idea) Thank´s! |

Sometimes people will play the game of "adding" your name onto a reservation in their name to get around this issue. Just be careful as the hotel could still require the named individual to physically show up or they won't allow the use of the cert. |

Combine travel packages?
In light of the recent change to no longer convert to American Airlines miles I want to get one last good transfer in before it is gone. I also want to redeem Marriott points for the 7 night all inclusive package. Does anyone know if it is allowed (I couldn't find anything specific in the T&C) to combine a 7 night stay + airline miles with a 7night all inclusive package?
I know you can book a room on points before you have the points and just must get the points prior to your stay. Is this possible for either of these two packages? It doesn't seem like this is possible for either the airlines points package or the all inclusive package. My only concern is I want to make sure if I redeem for the 7 night certificate, I'll be able to also guarantee I can do the AI. I am slightly paranoid that the AI option will disappear like it did for Aruba last Jan. I will get the points prior, it's just probably wont happen until the month before the trip. Thanks ahead of time. |
I don't know if you can order an AI award if you don't yet have the points or not. I would suggest giving MR a call and asking them. They should know.
While I have never tried, I doubt Marriott would let you order a TP award before you have the points. Given that you get airline miles deposited when you order, I just don't see them advancing you those miles when you don't have the Marriott points yet. |
I'll call Marriott as I am sure this can't be done over the internet and will report back. I will have enough for the TP soon, but won't have enough for the AI until august so I might be ok.

Last week I was issued the "Travel Package" award for a a 7 night stay + airline miles (870N). I then booked the the hotel award stay with reservations. Then I had to call back for the "All-Inclusive" (CI7) award. I had ample points so I cannot comment on that part of your question. |
Travel Package/USAirways 50% Mile Transfer Bonus!
If you are considering a Travel Package Award and want USAirways points then USAir is offering a 50% bonus miles when you convert hotel points to miles starting 5/24-. You must register with USAirways first.
Of course I just cashed in a Travel Package on 5/20 and had 120,000 miles posted to USAir. "If Only" I waited it would have been 180,000. Is it possible to retro this award with Marriott? |
Is there a cost to transfer the points?

Note there are a couple of different ways to convert Marriott points into airline miles. There are the straight convertion awards found at Air Mileage Awards. Note that you will get 1 airline mile somewhere for 3 to 5 Marriott points (depends on the number of miles you want.) Marriott also has their Travel Package Awards that come with a 7 night hotel stay and somewhere between 50K-120K airline miles. Note that a TP award provides a 1-to-1 Marriott point to airline mile transfer rate (after you take the hotel award into consideration.) This is one of the best hotel awards in the industry. Marriott wil also allow someone to earn airline miles instead of points, but the earnings is normally so poor that no one really would want to do that. (Certain promotions like the current Delta one can sometimes change the dynamics enough to make this a "temporary" option for the life of the promo.) |

I just noticed in the SPG forum that US has re-upped on their 50% mileage transfer from them as well. Looks like US is really putting the screws to the advertising table.
|
So I just have to register and process a Travel Package like normal and I get 50% bonus on the miles?
We are looking to travel BWI-BKK next summer. THe 50% bonus might kick us up to Biz class! |
Do you have a link for this?
Any idea how long this lasts? Seems too good to pass up, but no long vacations scheduled in the near future. If I buy the category 8 reward, will marriott allow me to "book down" and actually use it on cat 7 hotels if I want? |
