I didn't get a travel package confirmation email - only that i had a reservation. Wonder if the agent messed up?
UA miles take no more than 1 business day to show up in one's account. Used to be even faster. |

I wouldn't be too alarmed at not getting the email. I've probably redeemed 4-5 Travel Packages in last few years and this was the first time I recall getting an email confirmation. The prior redemptions with no emails all posted fine (certs + UA miles). However, I did seem to have a more skilled agent this time and the whole transaction only took 2 minutes and received the confirmation email right away. Prior redemptions were a bit of a struggle so email may be related to the skill of the agent.

I ordered my TP with united miles Wednesday. I received the email confirmation right away and my miles today.

All right, folks, when the miles are truly being expedited, they show up in the partner's account on the SAME DAY.
Reference on previous post here https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30016350-post4245.html Just out of curiosity I checked my AS account, the miles are there. I do not know when they show up but the expedite is done about 12:15pm as the Cancellation / Rebooked Travel Package confirmation emails arrived at 12:19pm and 12:20pm respectively. Kudo to the San Antonio TX home-based rep to be thorough and proactive. Wish we would all get similar competent reps on our first calls. |
Travel Package - When to Buy?
Hey all. My apologies if this has been covered before. I have been working on saving enough points for a MR Travel Package. I’ve done these in the past and always appreciated Marriott’s flexibility in using the hotel portion. I was going to wait until I had enough points for the most number of miles and 7 nights at the highest Ritz, but with the combination of programs next month, I’m wondering if I should pull the trigger now. I have about 350k points I can spend and I will spend it all on this. Should I roll the dice and wait to see what the travel packages entail under the new program? Or should I buy now? Any insight would be more than appreciated. |

I simply can't see them taking away our 7 nights and giving us points worth 1-2 nights instead. Either turn the voucher into 7 nights at a similar level in the new program or give us the points back so we can book 7 nights. I have 4 vouchers and if they do devalue them and I end up with only a handful of nights I personally will be taking them to SCC.
Let me put it in easier terms! I go into Costco and purchase a $100.00 Gift certificate for my favourite restaurant for $80.00 and later decide that I don't want it, when I return them to Costco, how much will I get back? Hint! It is NOT $100.00 yet so many believe that is what is owed to them? Why? Here the value of the certificate is $80.00 and the redemptive value is $100.00. Likewise, the value of your floater certificate is 45K while the redemptive value is 7 nights in a Category 1-5 property when attached. Giving you back the 45K value is not a devaluation. You are getting back the certificate value. Your handfull of nights is as a result of you failing to redeem your certificates when you had the opportunity. Plain & Simple. Good luck with the SCC! The only fault would be yours when not redeeming ("attaching") the certificate to maximize value when you had the opportunity to do so! What ever you decide to do it up to you. However, you have no right to be angry if you decide to "float" into the New Program and the outcome is less than anticipated. James |
Not greed, but rather a clear and appreciable difference between members cancelling certs on their own and Marriott unilaterally cancelling the certs and returning 45k. When you buy a Travel Package, you’re redeeming your miles for outsized value. It even says there right on the page. “Take advantage of an excellent vacation value.” If you decide you’ve changed your mind and want to refund the cert, it makes sense that you only get the residual value, taking into account the airline miles. Otherwise, members would repeatedly redeem Travel Packages and refund the hotel cert to get something out of nothing. That is different from Marriott unilaterally deciding to do this to everyone’s certs. That would be a case of members redeeming their points for outsized value, only to not get the outsized value they were promised. Members would be rightfully angry. |

residual value seems fair
I do not see why people expect greater points than residual value ....I had to return my 7nt, Cat 6 certif. because of a hurricane; Marriott extended it 1 year, but health prevented my second trip. Marriott returned 75k points (I understand Cat 1-5 returns yield 45k points). Why should Marriott now return more than that for “floaters” / unassigned certifs.? We already get the air miles up front.
