Posted by Michelle today on Insiders, Dec 31 is last day to order. They MAY be replaced by plastic gift cards offered at limited times throughout the year.

Marriott Platinum 135K checks award being eliminated

According to a recent post on Marriott Insiders, it appears that the 135K point reward for $100k in Marriott checks is being eliminated after 12/31/12. This is the last remaining worthwhile special award for platinum members. It appears that Marriott no longer believes their most loyal customers deserve any special awards.

A MR Supervisor told me last month that this was one of the benefits disappearing from the MR program in 2013. He did not elaborate on the others.

Regards,

RIP...

you don't really expect most posters here to actually do a search function and/or read prior posts before posting old news repeatedly posted earlier now do you????????????

much easier to just post away and then have the Mod move their post to where it belongs............with the same earlier posts.........

Confirmed

This is posted right underneath the link to order the certificates on Marriott.com

"* As of January 1, 2013, $100 and $1,000 Elite-only gift cheque rewards will no longer be available. Gift cheques purchased by December 31, 2012 will be honored until the certificates expiration date."

Is there a reason why they would discontinue this?

Hmm... Might have to do some ordering! Is there a site that nicely explains limitation on usage of the cheques?

I have always used them just like cash--on any rate or for anything charged to your room

Awesome! How long till they expire from date of purchase? I make plat once my nights hit my account from a stay last week and this may be a good way to burn some points..

They expire 1 year after purchase. I have loved them. I bought a set last December for 135,000. If I would have just used the points as points then they would have cost me close to 200,000 points for all my stays this year. (yes I have a spread sheet that I have kept track of them on!) Plus, I earned points on my stays since they were $ stays.

Michelle says it is because the company that prints them won't print them any more.

if it's the ONLY reason this perk is being discontinued it's pretty lame as with the economy the way it is I'm sure there's another printer out there willing to do the work............

LOL! I hope it's not the same company that prints the graphics on their room keys. Because then Marriott would have to shut down all their hotels according to their logic.
