I sit in the Business Center of a downtown Denver Marriott early this morning after being shocked awake at 6:30AM. After getting dressed and entering the hallway I see 3 kids running down the hallway in their underwear screaming and playing.

Where are the parents? Why are they letting the kids do this?

Actually, I have a better question. Why in the world would the hotel book kids on the Concierge floor anyway? Isn't this a place where business travels can get some peace and quiet?

Well that is pretty obvious, the parents are sleeping in and kicked their loud kids out of the room.

I would mention it to your concierge. The reality is that there are incredibly rude people everywhere, and apparently concierge floors are not exempt. Us locals would never do that...

Obviously parenting is lacking in this case. Alas there are those who should go take Parenting 101.

But it's not only kids who misbehave. Many a times have I encountered full grown "adults" who behaved worse than my kids. Concierge or not, rude is rude. As far as I can see, being rude cuts across all socio-economic class as well as age group. Perhaps hotels need to give people a "manner test" before they are booked on the concierge floor?

Yes, letting your kids run around in the halls of the hotel is wrong, any time, any floor.

I've never heard of Concierge floors as "no kids" though. I thought it was for loyal travellers and those willing to pay the higher rate. I'm there all the time when I'm on vacation/personal travel and have no problems with me or others bringing kids along.

Normal rules apply - keep kids under control, no bothering others, etc.

I have almost always been on the Concierge level with my 4-year old and never had a Marriott rep say anything about it. I've taken him into the lounge etc, too. But I've never let him run through the halls in his underwear. That's incredibly selfish, no matter the floor.

We have spent a few vacations on concierge floors with our children and would never dream of letting them wander the halls without one of us. That is not only rude to the other guests, but unsafe for the child! Tell the concierge so he can knock on the parents door and get them out of bed to take care of THEIR children!
I can not stand people that let their children grow up like weeds and turn the other way when they misbehave. We all pay to go on vacation and expect a relaxing, fun time!

1 - Pickup the phone.
2 - Call the hotel operator.
3 - Ask for security.
4 - Tell them there is a screaming person in their underwear in the hallway.
5 - Watch how fast they respond!

Hey...you dont have to say they are kids!

I bring my kids as often as I can on trips and follow the above - keep control on my kids on the road as I do on the road.

I would leave Marriott ASAP if they didn't allow my kids access to the Conciege Floor /Lounge.

Don't penalize everybody because one set of parents don't know how to parent!

I am with you on this one - i cannot, cannot stand parents who let their kids run loose, loud and screaming all over hotels, planes, etc.

It is horrid parenting and downright rude to others.

Parents - while I am happy to see your kids in C. Lounge, please,please don't expect me to babysit. I work 65 hrs./week while on road and you can't afford my hourly babysitting rates..laugh out loud.

I am sure I am in the minority on this, but I feel there are certain places where children under 16 just don't belong: the concierge lounge, the airline club, fancy restaurants and first class on an airplane. I don't care if they are well-behaved or not, they're taking up space. Whether I'm paying to be on the Concierge floor or there by virtue of an upgrade, I'm tired of having no place to sit, eat my breakfast, and read the paper because some gulty parent decided to bring little Brittney and Hunter along on a business trip. My father traveled on business and I stayed where I belonged: at home in school. I am not a parent, truth is I don't much like kids at all, but I have traveled with other people and their children and we stay at kid-friendly hotels such as Residence Inns and Embassy Suites so the children can have room to be on their own and still be supervised AND stay out of other peoples way.

Well, truth is I agree with you. I think everyone who's not like me should be kept out of wherever I'm going, so that I don't have to deal with these undesirables. Kids, short people, tall people, fat people, slim people, men, women, whatever. I don't care how well-behaved they are, they don't belong as long as I don't think they do. They should stay where they belong. Which, of course, brings us back to way back when when only certain individuals had any rights. But that's another story....

Wow, I didn't think people with attitudes like that still existed...
