This sounds like the same as it's always been: "X, Y, and Z are benefits at Marriott Hotels & Resorts (not valid at resorts)." It's a silly marketing thing that they want to refer to the full service brand as "Marriott Hotels & Resorts", consistently, even when it doesn't make sense...

It's just very odd that the words are different for PP versus Plat.

Platcomike Jul 14, 2010 6:36 am

Now that I have looked at the pages a little more, it is apparent that they are not being very careful at all with the wording.

On the Platinum benefits page they show Free Internet, but not on the Platinum Premier Page. Do you think that maybe we get breakfast at resorts but no internet anyplace? That sure doesn't make any sense.

In fact, the two pages show benefits in different order, which makes it hard to compare.

I wonder if anyone proofs these pages from the viewpoint of the readers. Seems to me that they are not paying much attention to the page that only their best customers are going to see. Isn't that a pretty important page?

Property:Marriott Fremont CA

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 Night, never been here before

Greeting: Thanks for being a Plat

Room upgrade: Nada

They had no idea how to use my 20% off card. Getting the check took 15 minutes

DJ_Iceman Jul 14, 2010 6:33 pm

Property: Dulles Airport Marriott
Length of stay: 2 nights, multiple stays this year
Greeting: "DJ Iceman! Great to see you again--why have you been away so long? We have you in your favorite suite right up on the concierge floor."
Suite Upgrade: Yes.
Special Requests: In addition to the outstanding greeting and room upgrade, they were having a manager's reception poolside tonight, with a big spread of free food and complimentary wine and beer. What a great property!

megtravels Jul 15, 2010 6:56 pm

Property: Residence Inn Allentown/Bethlehem Airport

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 1 Night, never stayed there before

Greeting: No, other than 'points or a market item?"

Room upgrade: No but since the toilet came within 2 inches of flooding the bathroom I was 'upgraded' to a 2BR unit with a toilet that wouldn't stop running (but it wasn't going to flood) and 1 BR in the suite that smelled like eau du litter box

Suite upgrade: n/a

Special requests filled: n/a

Other: n/a

Lounge:n/a

Will stay in property again: probably not as I prefer the new SHS in Quakertown or the CY off 78, but this was the closest hotel to my cousin's house...and most other things were sold out due to the AAA baseball all star game at Coca Cola Field home of the Iron Pigs (AAA affiliate of my favorite team, the Phillies!)

********************************************
Property: Courtyard EWR/Elizabeth

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 1 Night, several prior stays

Greeting: Thanks for being a P, would you like points or an amenity?

Room upgrade: No however in the comments i asked for a quiet room that didn't stink (this place used some nasty air fresheners and I swear on a stack of marriott directories that they put them IN the a/c unit like at the Somerset CY...and THERE I got so sick that I seriously considered going to the ER but I digress...) Lo and behold, I had a quiet, non connecting room that didn't stink!

Suite upgrade: no

Special requests filled: due to my fresh smelling room i will say yes

Other: n/a

Lounge:n/a

Will stay in property again: Most likely provided I get a fresh smelling room.

Property: Renaissance Dupont Circle

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 Nights, never been here before

Greeting: Thanks for being a P, would you like points or an amenity?

Room upgrade: Allegedly to one of the 'bigger better' rooms on the 3rd floor with a lovely view of the air conditioner for the building. I realize that here, there is nothing to see ,but the curtains were shut, I presume to block out the view since the sun wouldn't really shine in between the buildings. After being on hold 10 minutes, I hung up and finally got moved to the same room, just on the 8th (Club) floor.

Suite upgrade: no

Special requests filled: Yes the fridge was there and i was NOT in a connecting room...

Other:Room not ready at noon (didn't think it would be) so I stored my bags and headed off to the Newseum-came back around 3:30 and got into a room.

Staff, especially the lobby "navigator (a/k/a concierge) and the CL attendants are very nice so fay.

I do not care for the 'great room' lobby.......it was packed with people using the free WiFi (not sure if they were even guests or meeting attendees) and the lack of an actual 'restaurant' for dinner (or lunch...) - but JMO.

They did honor the 20% off, but the server had to ask as she'd never heard of it before...PSA: PLEASE get associates trained!

ETA: The hotel correctly processed the EEO

Lounge: nice-the jerk chicken nachos were pretty good but the brownies, well, bricks would be a good description

Will stay in property again: I doubt it-I prefer the Gateway, Mayflower or maybe even the JW....I may move to one of them if I wind up here longer than 2 days.

megtravels Jul 17, 2010 12:13 pm

Property: Renaissance Mayflower DC

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 Nights, stayed here before but it's been probably 10 years

Greeting: "Ooo, you're a Platinum Premier..welcome"

Room upgrade: Supposedly an Executive king/Larger room/Junior Suite..basically an L-shaped affair with a couple comfy chairs, a single ottoman and that's about it.

Suite upgrade: n/a

ETA: while I was talking with the nice man at the desk I'd spoken with yesterday he asked how my room was. I said it was OK...told him the number, he typed in the computer and gave me new keys to a room on the 8th (CL) floor. Moved my stuff into a nice suite. Again, issues with the AC, dirty curtain from being blown on BY the AC, stupidly short Ethernet cable (no WiFi in rooms...sheesh!)

Spoke with MOD who bought me dinner.....not bad! But really, whomever is in charge of housekeeping here needs to train their associates. And PLEASE replace the minuscule TV in the living room with a flat screen....if the thing is 20 inches that's a lot.....

Special requests filled: No, had to ask for extra things, however, I arrived really early, before 9 AM so I will let it slide.

Other: DO NOT use the business center. Painfully slow is an understatement. I wanted to book a tour on line and print out my EEO-spent $5 bucks and couldn't get onto Marriott.com:rolleyes::mad:. The concierge was nice enough to let me use a computer there.

Flat screen TV, not a good selection of channels. I thought Marriott was supposed to expand their offerings.

The room I am in needs a good general cleaning. It's clean, but hasn't been edge vacuumed in months. The room I looked at yesterday had an armoire with a broken door. Peeling wallpaper in the bathroom (low and near the floor). And dirty hand prints on the walls near the elevator buttons...YUCK!

Lounge:
ETA: Sign said lounge opens at 5, key wouldn't work. Operator said 5:30. People come out about 5:20 so not sure what happened. Tried key again, worked. (BTW it was well past 5 when I tried...)The attendant, not particularly nice says "oh, you have to jiggle the key..." HUH?

Two fried something or others....cheese, veggies, crackers...nothing really spectacular and no explanation of offerings in lounge. Points to the Dupont Circle location for nice attendant who actually informed guests about the evening's offerings.

Will stay in property again: Not sure.....I got a decent anniversary rate (it's the hotel's 85th) which features breakfast for 2 (Hmmm, it's only me, can I eat twice??:D) and a bottle of fizzy wine. Will see if they can do the EEO properly.

NDDomer86 Jul 17, 2010 11:58 pm

Buying dinner to compensate seems a common practice here, as the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago after a check-in snafu including the desk agent calling housekeeping in front of me and asking them to clean the room I was to be checked into because I was an "impatient guest" (I had dropped my bags off around noon, it was now 4:30 and the room still wasn't ready).

YIKES and they said that in front of you?? Genius! (not!)

BTW the meal was really NOT good....steak tough and veggies cold...and breakfast today was equally terrible....dry, lukewarm french toast and cold, albeit crisp bacon. Since the dinner was free and breakfast included, i just said to myself, forget it.....

And it took until about noon today to get the dirty curtains replaced...(3 phone calls and 3 trips to the desk.)

Comments: Has to be one of the best CY I have stayed in. Great staff, new lobby, great rooms. I was really impressed

Property :Bridgewater, NJ FS (my second home)

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 Night, several prior stays

Greeting: Thanks for being a PP, welcome back

Room upgrade To concierge floor which was fine, considering it's the annual Balloon Fest nearby and they are full for the rest of the weekend....and I accidentally cancelled my ressie so I appreciated them reinstating it....

Suite upgrade: no-but I've gotten them before

Special requests filled: n/a but the bed had hard-as-a rock foam pillow...2 feather ones arrived within 5 minutes of calling.

Other: Well, I guess it helps to stay here often, as I get to go to the Balloon fest (never been before) with, well, let's say a sponsor's pass and parking for which my wallet will not have to lose any contents! TYVM!! that made my lousy day quite a bit better!:D

Lounge: didn't make it in time for last night, but this AM they had eggs, oatmeal and the usual suspects! The other day they had pierogies and they were pretty darned good-and different!

Will stay in property again: Let me think about that for a minute....:p

Property: Lebanon, NJ CY

Length of stay (repeat stays?): 1 Night, a few prior stays but it's been years

Greeting: Thanks for being a PP

Room upgrade: No and I had to beg for a king for 1 night.... (Used points and all that showed up were DBDB,but they HAD kings open...)

Suite upgrade: no

Special requests filled: n/a

Other: n/a

Lounge:n/a

Will stay in property again: No. at 7:30 AM the HSKP supervisor and a houseman were permitting the door next to mine to bang on the closer. Repeatedly and unnecessarily. I was very angry and upset (being a full time caretaker, when mom is in the hospital I tend to try and catch up on rest) and read them the riot act. They said, "oh we didn't realize..." DUH...it is SEVEN THIRTY IN THE AM! They apparently called the GM who was manning the desk. I also gave him a piece of my mind....(yes I was cranky-it happens when you're rudely awakened)...but I must say, this guy's attitude was more of "well what do you expect? silence at 7:30" as opposed to 'i am very sorry ms megtravels, we will train our people to be quiet...'

And, if you get a room on the Route 78 side....bring earplugs...the truck noise is really horrible.....

(sorry about the rant......i am done)

Room upgrade: From reg room to exec room (only difference flat screen TV)
Suite upgrade: no, in fact when we checked in they asked us if we wanted a suite for 80 Euro's more (they had deal for rooms at 93 Euros at the time).
Special requests filled: Asked for extra towels via virtual conceirge, which was 'confirmed' via return e-mail. No extra towels (3 for two people) mentioned it to the manager. Next day no extra towels. Mentioned it again, finally got some extra towels.
Other: No wake up call first two days (even after letting them know about it after the first day).

Property: San Francisco Marriott Marquis
Length of stay: 2 night (been here before but quite a while ago)
Greeting: Thanked me for being a PLATINUM
Room Upgrade: Yes, Corner King
Suite Upgrade: No
Special requests: None made.
Comments: Nice breakfast in the lounge but way too small and not enough tables (only 3). Evening service was abysmal... All the hot appetizers looked like they came out of the freezer section of SAMS or COSCO.

Marina Del Rey Marriott, stays in April and just last week.

Both times, greeted as PP, told I could have points as well as amenity. They said this was standard throughout Marriott. I've mentioned it at other properties and nobody else seems to know anything about it.

At JW Marriott Camelback Inn, guy who checked me in seemed amazed at my status and points balance. Then he declined my request for breakfast coupons. Ha!

I checked out after a night and moved to the Buttes, where they always give me buffet coupons, even though they don't have to because it's a resort.

Also, workout room at JW Camelback was shockingly poor for a Cat 7, or whatever it is.
