They should not be walking a PP much less a plat, something must be up. Stupid questions, but 1) Is your MR # on the reservation when making it 2) Are you checking in very, very late and specifying this in the reservation ?
Also, you probably do not need the compensation like the other poster mentioned, but if you hold them to it on the spot, you may find a room "suddenly" opens up. If it took 4 hours to deal with the last walk, then "discussing" it for 15 minutes with the front desk and manager on duty (if necessary) is worth it. The compensation for walking a platinum is severe for a reason, corporate does not want them to do it. If you did not get the compensation as you mentioned, I would try to at least get, though at this point, it may no be viable. |
Why would you rely entire to Marriott if you have so many stays? I would try SPG and Hyatt as well. I am almost certain that you would be positively surprised.
|
I am curious... are you getting the published benefits when you get "walked" or are you just taking the walk with no compensation?
|
I am not a PP and I can see your point 100%. If there is a room it should go to you. The only conclusion one can reach is Marriott knows they have you and thus are more concerned about a lesser customer than you. Further, I would say a person who travels as much as you indicate is probably top 99.999 percentile not just top 1%. Seriously. I would write a letter to the president of the company. I think you would get a positive response.

I have to echo the others; sure hope you have contacted Marriott about this and that you have been adequately compensated.

Wow I wish I were in the OP's shoes. $200 smackers in cash and two nights at the Marriott Champs Elysee or any other Cat 8 would be sweet.
It has been at least 20 years since I was walked. Think it was at the CY DTW. |
The OP should contact PP desk.
Given the comps, I would not mind being walked. That said, I have never been walked. |

That said, I have never been walked. I too, have not been walked since being a plat/PP. Although-I was in YYZ and checking into a hotel ~3 months ago, around 4pm with my boss. The fdm was offering 50K (YES..50K) MR points, $300 CASH-USD or CAD, paying for that night in the hotel that was ~500 feet..(YES, FEET) from the front door, and a $50per person meal at a nice steak house (The Keg-if that is "nice") nearby! He needed 2 volunteers, and offered it to my boss and I. I almost FAINTED with the offer-and my boss decided that he was staying at THAT hotel...period! The kicker was, it was a new-ish Hilton Garden Inn (IIRC) that was the "walked" hotel. The hotel we were checking in to was a Days Inn that was converted to a FFI. :td: to the boss! The next morning the FDM told me that he was able to get 2 people who he needed, and he didnt have to give up the dinner $$$. He was offering that to us to be nice! And all of this was at 4PM!!!!!!!!!!! UGH! The next morning I asked the |
Dumb Question Alert!
But I'm new to the forum. What is "walked?" Is it getting to your hotel with a reservation and a room not being available? Or is it being a walk-up and a room not being available? Or is it ... ? |

not a pp.. just plat... only been walked twice and it was when I arrived after 12:00 due to other travel issues. I was so tired I didn't care. Maybe 75% of my 150 nights this year will be at the same hotel.. even when they are oversold for events, which happens quite a bit.. they will not walk me because they know me very well. Thats the one "perk" i miss most when traveling to other hotels.
|
Wow - I'm 650+ nights in lifetime, most of them 1 or 2 day stays over the last 12 years and I've never, ever been walked. Been PP 1 year, Plat about 8 years and gold for 3.
Agreed about not having a problem with walking due to the bennies associated with it (provided the new hotel doesn't have bedbugs, so it really depends on where they want to walk me), but also understand if it's late and I'm tired from travel enough can be enough. Phily flyer - wow, what an ... for a boss. That compensation they offered was great. |

I do not think that there is any excuse for walking a Platinum. There have been times where my plane was delayed and I knew that I would not get to the hotel until well after midnight, so I called the hotel to reconfirm that I would get there eventually. I do not know if it helped but if you are arriving late at a place during an event, it probably would not hurt.
