Anyone else still waiting on their card? Gift?

I also got my PP gift in the mail and it's very nice.

There was a gift? What was it? Was every PP to receive a gift, or was it based on some other tier qualification within PP?

I was Platinum Premier last year - can't say it elicited any more benefits than being Platinum. Besides a Front Desk clerk commenting once I must stay at a lot of Marriott's, but they all say that, since they can see I have over a million points in my account. lol

The gift was a Marriott branded hangup toiletry case.
Better than last year stupid app but for someone who travels enough to get PP, you think maybe I already have a nice one.
This one seemed kinda cheap - I have three others I got at trade shows as giveaways that are just like the one they send
So another swing and a miss.

A nice PP luggage tag would be nice as a chance to show off status is always welcome :)

I don't like anything to show off Status on my luggage because that makes a target for baggage handlers to go through it, when you are not around after it is checked!
Maybe for carryons, they will make the passenger feel better or important.
Does it help get upgrades? ;)

I'm starting to miss last years stupid app since it just expired. Haven't unwrapped the toiletry kit yet.

Isn't it funny how we dislike something, right up until we don't have it anymore?

Property: Marriott Champs Elysees Paris
Length of stay: 2 nights, 2 rooms, both on points
Greeting: Nothing memorable
Room upgrade: Yes (both rooms)
Suite upgrade: No
Special requests filled: No
Comment: Booked two rooms on points for myself, missus and another couple. Delighted when both were upgraded to what they called superior rooms, although since they were overlooking the noisy 24 hour racetrack that is the Champs Elysees, I'm not so sure... Also, both rooms were treated to the arrival gift, which was a decent bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and some savoury canapes.

Property: Renaissance Malmo
Length of stay: 3-4 nights per week, most weeks since January 2013
Greeting: Now get greeted by name as I stay there so often
Room upgrade: Nearly always to an executive room on the 4th floor, which is far bigger than I need
Suite upgrade: No, they only have one as far as I know and I haven't had the pleasure
Special requests filled: Usually, although this week got room 437, which appears to have the a/c outlet above it for the entire hotel and is very noisy
Comment: Nearly always get a complimentary bottle of Cava, fruit and chocolates in the room. Free breakfast and wifi. Staff are delightful.

I stayed there in March - it's a terrific hotel - highly recommended in my view

But, in my business travel (I work for a large company that has excellent negotiated rates), I feel that the fact that I am staying on a $125 rate (vs. $200 published) has more of an impact on the room I receive than the fact that I am a Plat...

This. Spent 60 of 90 days in the quarter over 3 stays at the Renaissance in Zurich but as a Plat, every stay my "upgrade" was only that my key card got me into the on a different floor lounge.

I suspect it's because I work for a massive company with an HQ down the street and the rates are probably rock bottom comparatively...

Sounds like the ones you get on long haul flights. I didn't miss much...

I did have a *small* Platinum victory today, however. Last year, I purchased $1,000 in Marriott gift cheques (they no longer offer this). I thought they expired the end of the month, but they actually expired two weeks ago. I only had $200 left, but I planned on using it this weekend for a little spa day with a friend.

The agent was nice enough to take back the unused $200 in cheques, and will deposit the pro-rated points into my account.

So, I then was able to buy a $200 spa card, which cost me an additional 15k in points, but at least I didn't lose the $200 completely.

:)

Property: Renaissance Vienna Riding School
Length of stay: 1 night, 1st stay
Greeting: Nothing memorable
Room upgrade: Yes
Suite upgrade: Yes
Special requests filled: No
Comment: Was given a duplex room with separate bedroom, bathroom, living room and shower room. Access to lounge with usual free drinks and canapes. Executive rooms are in a separate block across the courtyard from reception. Great hotel and looking forward to my next stay.

Ugh- I'm at the same properties often, and I hate when they do this, especially when I'm just walking in the door past the FD. (I wish there was a check-box in the MR preferences to LMTFA ...!)

I've read the majority of this thread, however I have a question

What's the likely annual spend to achieve PP?

Yes I understand that there is additional criteria

As a European member of MR, I expect my company will pay c$17,000 for the 75 nights ill give Marriott this year

Ill qualify as a platinum, but no more (my choice - ill maintain *Wood Plat also)

If this is your first year as Platinum with Marriott, there's almost no chance that they'll make you PP.

First, what is c$17,000, meaning what currency is that?

Second, your profile says you are Gold, did you have that status before 2013, or have you already become Gold just from your stays thus far in 2013?

Third, if you found out that you needed to spend $50,000 USD, or more, in your second or subsequent year, as a Marriott elite member, to become PP, would you find a way to do it?
