I simply indicated that I was a frequent guest of the property but was only flying in and out on that day. I did not ask in advance and just simply asked the front desk manager and nicely explained the situation. I'm not positive, but I do believe they pulled up my stay record before giving me a key.
While Ohmark's comments above are a year old, I do not disagree with him. Had they refused to allow me use of the lounge, we would have gone to the resturant or a quiet place in the lobby. It is certainly not a request that I woud expect the property to grant, but is another reason I am very happy with being a PM with Marriott
I have always been allowed use of the lounge for early check in wihen a guest, even as ealry as 9:00 AM in the morning

Thanks, l4p, that's what I thought about getting day access to the lounges. The property would expect you to have had stayed in the past. Makes more sense if you had a business excuse too (i.e. interviews) as opposed to just dropping and "raiding" their snacks.

In all cases we used the the resturants for lunch and the bar for late afternoon refreshments. I would not have raided the snacks any way as a non-paying guest, but I guess some folks would.
In any case, it was a nice gesture on the part of the property to allow us to use the lounge. ^

Business usage of concierge lounge.
It's interesting to hear the different perspectives of FTers. For me, with a full day of professional activities, I looked forward to the lounge as a refuge to share with my fellow Marriott elites and relax and socialize. On the occasions when I've observed others utilize the lounge for business purposes, I've been irritated in that I was trying to escape from the pressures of the day, not watch or listen to others undergoing the same. Yet, reading L4P's post, I can empathize. Maybe the solution is that during the day, when the lounge is little utilized, it's okay for business purposes, but not at other times?
