Marriott Kauai
I see that there are two properties on Kaua'i, the Marriott Resort & Beach Club and the Marriott Kaua'i Beach Club. Are these truely two properties and if so can anyone comment on the differences.

Kaua'i Beach Club is the timeshare part of the property. The timeshare and hotel share the same property.

This is a pretty nice hotel. It's not as nice as Princeville or the Hyatt, but it is convenient to the airport (read "you'll be seeing and hearing planes all the time") and it is centrally located on the island itself.
The pool is incredible and it is close to Duke's. Make sure you go to Duke's and get the macadamia nut dessert...delish.

Just to add a contrary opinion to Dingo, I would order the mac-nut/crab wontons at Dukes. (Are you talking about the Hula Pie, Dingo?)
And .. it is near the airport and the plane noise is not a big problem there. This seems to be an ongoing debate here at flyertalk about this property.

Not only are they the same property, but I beleive all the amenities are available to you at the hotel (spa, pool, health club) if you stay at the villas. But call and ask first.

And remember to charge your dinner at Duke's to your room. That way you get 10 MR points
for each dollar spent!!

Actually, I didn't get points for the Golf Course or Duke's. My bill total was greater than the points total, and when I questioned it I was told they would accept the charges but not for points. I did get Marriott reward points on my Visa for the total however.

We were just there over the 4th of July week. Duke's was still participating in the 10 point/$1. Unfortunately, the golf course/golf challenge had withdrawn from the program. Our rep said that the golf course is struggling financially. At the very least though when you charge things to your room, they "become" a Marriott charge and if you're paying with the MR VISA you end up with 3 points per $.

Kauai isn't that big of an island. "If" being close to the airport is that important when you're visiting a tropical island, then this hotel certainly wins the award.
If you want a beautiful beach and view from the resort, you might want to pick Hyatt or Princeville.
I don't like the location at all - there are no sunsets and to me, it felt like the resort was situated on a lake with cranes and industrial ships across the way.

.. like I said .. it's an ongoing debate here.
Most people seem to really like it, though a few have this problem with it.
