Mega Bonus Formula
I just finished talking to a rep at Marriott and was informed the bonuses are based on your stay history. The more you stayed in the past, the less the points. If you have only stayed a few times at Marriott, your point offer will be greater.
The program is designed to pull customers from Hilton, Hyatt, etc. It is not designed to reward loyal customers.

This sounds like inaccurate information. Most Platinum members, like me, seem to have received the 15 nights/30000 points offer, which is apparently the richest one.
I wondered (in another thread) if the offer had anything to do with your unused Marriott point balance. When you have hundreds of thousands of unused points, you aren't very much motivated by piddling offers.

bds is right -- I'm a Plat with 65 or so nights at Marriott this year -- and I got the top (I think) 15/30k offer. I also have 600,000 points sitting in my account..

I am platinum and I think that crju has hit the nail on the head. Over the last 6 months probably 60 nights - I only got 15K for 15 nights. Hardly worthwhile to change my hotel stay pattern to take advantage of this promo.

If this theory is true..why would they even bother to offer me a mega-bonus?...I had 200+ nights last year and got a 40K bonus...this year to date....174 nights...and they offer me only 15K...what's the pattern?

It really does not seem like there is rhyme nor reason to this promotion.......i am platinum with over 275 nites this year and i was offered 15 nites for 15,000 points.

Good grief: 275 nights! Only 91 more and you have the whole year covered. Any duplications in there (one night checked in to two or more hotels)?

This promotion has not motivated me to put in the last 12 nights I need to make Platinum this year. I am gold and received the 25,000 / 15 night bonus promotion. This is better than some platinum offers.
What does platinum actually receive other than an extra 5% marriott points on top of the gold status?

crju, sorry but I think the Marriott person was ill informed.
I'm Silver & got 10k for 10, my wife is Platinum (100+) and got 15K for 15. Sounds opposite from what you were told...

bdschobel.....
I had a 6 month stay at a Residence Inn where i had the room booked for the full duration of the 6 months, regardless of whether i went home on the weekends or not so that accounted for most of my nites. The others were from 5-6 nites a week at Courtyards and Marriotts (currently in Denver for the rest of the year).

I think what crju is saying that within EACH elite status the bonus depends on how many nights you stayed.
E.g. For Platinums, 15 nights for 15K for those that stayed a lot of nights (maybe 100?). For Platinums that haven't stayed as many nights, like 75, the offer was 15 nights for 30K. I have stayed around 75 nights in Marriott this year and received the 30K offer.

Aloha,
In addition to the extra 5% Marriott-point bonus, Platinum members get the (in)famous "Platinum box" -- a box full of sometimes expired snacks and 2 water bottles. It's nothing to get all excited about. In addition, we can always get a room, even at sold-out hotels, if requested 48 hours in advance and willing to pay a fairly high rate.
It's really not such a big deal to be Platinum, compared to Gold, but on the other hand, many people who reach 50 nights reach 75. It's not a big stretch. This year I'll have 71 nights, and ordinarily I would make sure to get another 4, but like most Platinum members, my status doesn't expire until 1/31/2002, so I don't need to!

"A true road warrior. Do you get full points credited for staying at any of these properties, or some gets you more points than others?"
Unfortunately, Residence Inns (and TownePlace Suites) only give you 5 points per dollar, but i find when i am gone for that long of a stretch that the comfort and conveinece of having a full kitchen, living room, bedroom , etc. is more worthwile than accumulating points. Although i have never understood why you only get 5 points at these properties when some of the room rates are on par with at least a courtyard. Does anyone have any insight into this?
