I stay quite a bit outside the US/Canada, but rarely on weekends (~30 weekend nights in past 5 years or so) . The past few months I have been staying more and more on weekends (cut down on flights-and bring my family
) in Europe.
I have noticed that breakfast was always offered on weekends! This seemed unusual, as I am so used to the "Mon-Fri, no resorts" in NA. Well-I looked at the benefits, and noticed:
"Guaranteed Lounge Access/Free Breakfast
Help yourself to light snacks, beverages and complimentary continental breakfast in our Concierge/Executive/Club Lounge at participating JW Marriott Hotels, the Autograph Collection, Renaissance Hotels and Marriott Hotels & Resorts. If your hotel doesn’t have a Concierge/Executive/Club Lounge, we invite you to enjoy complimentary continental breakfast on your weekday stays. Outside the U.S. and Canada, you are entitled to continental breakfast 7 days a week. (Not available at The Ritz-Carlton or resort locations.) In the event that this guarantee is not met, a guest compensation of $100 USD* will be issued to Elite members.
*Outside the U.S. compensation will be paid in the local currency."
Bolding mine. Have I just never noticed it, or was it a positive change?
^ if it was a change!
ETA: I looked back at some notes I had..and it seems as recently as last summer (7/2010) I had a stay at the Shelbourne in Ireland and was only offered breakfast Mon-Fri. So it seems as this MAY have been a POSITIVE enhancement. (My fear of this thread is that now it will be swiftly taken away)

Nice one ^
I've always been given free full breakfast at UK properties but to have it as actual policy (even Continental breakfast only) is great.

That is a definite recent change. Most lounges overseas are open 7 days a week, but there are some that close on weekends. This will insure that guests get a free breakfast overseas or the equivalent of $100 in local currency (which is worth closer to $80-85 after the hotel's exchange rate is taken into account except for Russia where cash guarantees are prohibited and guests receive Marriott points instead)

Thanks. But it would really be nice if folks, when they quote from the Marriott website, would provide the link.

Sorrry about that. I first went to the main Marriott T&Cs page to see the exact listing, but noticed that this wording isn't listed there. (Probably hasn't been updated with this new wording yet.) I thought maybe you had done the same thing and wondered where the OP actually got the listing.

If true a nice enhancement, that was already pretty consistent across the chain anyway (As a European its very rare I've had no breakfast in my travels) - but good to see it being standardised and published to catch those few laggard hotels and the chance of a little uncertainty. Now if only they'd extend this to courtyards!

DIdn't know it's policy, but great. I wish they'd include dinner also. But it was great, was in europe last week and got breakfast every day, and dinner monday-friday. between splitting the roomm w/multiple folks, the MMF rate, I think the free food probably made the room rate "free"

What hotel did you stay at that gave you free dinner M-F? That's unheard of.
Or was it just snacks in the CL?

Anytime I've been overseas. I think it's technically hour dourves. But we made it a full dinner almost every day. Always had salad & fruit. And 2 hot dishes. One day it was chicken and beef pot pies (not full size, but if you eat 15 of them, it's no different than a full size). In china it was dim sum and that's easily a full dinner. etc...

Oh dear, you're one of my least favoured fellow lounge guests... sigh, if you've stayed in Marriotts enough to get access to the lounge I might have hoped you could spring for a cheap take-out vs eating all the food in the lounge and leaving me without even a nibble later in the evening :P

Why can't we make this a change for NA properties too!! I spend lots of Friday nights at properties and would love brekkie before I fly on Saturday!
