I tip really well to the concierge and I fill out the forms to pay for any drinks...

I will tell you I have yet to see one hit my bill, not my original intention but keeps me tipping well.

My moral compass

(Stole the title from a previous poster - thanks!)

Where you draw the line between honest / dishonest is certainly subjective. Each of us behaves according to our own 'moral compass'... The progression from Black (dead wrong) to Gray (hmmm) to White (absolutely right) is something each of us determines for ourselves in each situation we find ourselves in.

These examples may or may not reflect my personal experience! :)

- Honor bar at a Marriott? If you drink, you pay (fill out the slip)
- Do you bring your water glass from your room, or fill up a water bottle with Chardonnay to make sure you get your money's worth? How much is $6.00 worth of wine / vodka anyway?
- If you drink, and fill out the slip, and leave a tip for the attendant, and your alcohol does not show up on your bill, you smile and say 'that tip was money well spent!' (or do you tell the person checking you out that you think there is a mistake, and their should be a charge from the lounge on your bill?)
- You bring your family to a Marriott on a vacation using your hard earned Marriot Rewards points. You bring them all to the lounge for breakfast. You eat and drink a lot. You take a yogurt and fruit and a couple of bottles of water with you when you leave...
- You bring your family to a Marriott on a vacation. Your rate includes breakfast in the restaurant for 2. You (and the person accompanying you) eat your fill, and then take bagels / fruit / yogurt / etc. back up to your room for the rest of the family to eat.

From an 'honest' persons perspective, every person who takes more than they are entitiled to will indirectly impact everyone. If 10% of people decide that an 'honor bar' is really just an opportunity to be dishonest, then this is probably factored in to Marriott's calculations. Losing this revenue is less expensive than hiring a bartender...

If 50% of people decide to 'steal' from an honor bar, then guess what will happen? Socrates will either shut down the honor bar altogether, or limit hours, etc. The irresponsible behaviour of a few will end up having a negative impact on everyone....

- Honor bar at a Marriott? If you drink, you pay (fill out the slip) never used an honor bar; I consider the prices a rip off for no service
- Do you bring your water glass from your room, or fill up a water bottle with Chardonnay to make sure you get your money's worth? never thought of this, then again, I don't use HB see aboveHow much is $6.00 worth of wine / vodka anyway? as stiff as you can handle

(or do you tell the person checking you out that you think there is a mistake, and their should be a charge from the lounge on your bill?) if I did this, It would be money well spent, presuming i filled out the slip, left a tip, the way I was supposed, someone chose not too bill me, who am I to question their generosity
- You bring your family to a Marriott on a vacation using your hard earned Marriot Rewards points. You bring them all to the lounge for breakfast. You eat and drink a lot. You take a yogurt and fruit and a couple of bottles of water with you when you leave... darn right I do thats SOP for me

The desk clerk asked if I had something "better" that showed I worked for the company, so I reached in my computer bag and pulled out a business card and she was placated.

Now anyone can print a business card showing that he works for any company in the world, but AMEX isn't likely going to issue a corporate card in Brand X's name to anyone off the street. I wanted to point that out to the desk clerk, but held my tongue. For once.

Absolutely true. In MA, they cannot have the complementary cocktail hours at the Embassy Suites.

Per Marriott rules, the hotel does not have to provide breakfast for Gold/Plats on weekends. There may be a few hotels that will go above and beyond to provide breakfast on weekends, but in general don't expect it.

I'm a Plat and just got back from the Marriott Miracle Mile in Chicago....the answer there was a resounding 'no'.

Echo on that, we should get a thread listing all the properties that does provide breakfast to Gold/plat on weekends.

I know for example Marriott Minneapolis gives you a $20 restaurant credit to use any way you want.

We aLready have one.

It is found here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...eekends-9.html

in the list, #1 indicates whether the lounge is open, #2 refers to coupons, on down the list for water, wi-fi etc. It is an amazing amount of work for Sharon to keep updated, and she needs everyone's help to do so.

Does using a discount code that was not intended for you or staying on a rate in which you don't meet the qualifications set your moral compass askew? Wouldn't that be theft as well?

Yes
