Lindsay Lohan was the first person I thought of when I read this thread yesterday! Sad commentary on celebrities.

A co-worker and I were at a FS Marriott around Philly. One of the lounge attendants was great. She saw us fill out the honor bar slip. She kept coming by to make sure our wine glasses were full for the hour or so that we were in there. :D We both left her $5 each. ^

The honor bar charge never appeared on either of our folios! :)

Regards,

RIP...

Now after the very "positive" comments here I thought I'd chime in here with another word "BRIBERY"

;)

general comment > this site condones stuff that is against airline policy just in the advertisements they use that shout out "SELL YOUR MILES" so threads with people using improper codes etc only makes sense

Really? I filled in my little slip the other week and I was charged. Although I watched a young guy walk out of the lounge with 4 bottles of beer and he didn't fill in the slip (which ticked me off).

were you mad that you didn't just didn't walk out without filling out the slip

Does using a discount code that was not intended for you or staying on a rate in which you don't meet the qualifications set your moral compass askew? Wouldn't that be theft as well?

YES. the key words are "not intended for you" and "don't meet the qualifications".

[QUOTE=plagwate;15828150]Really? Well a lot of us turned Chinese in recent weeks to obtain Gold Status. |)

I think "a lot" is relative. It isn't something i would be proud of, want to post publicaly, and if you had to "turn Chinese" for the promotion, then you didn't qualify which.... see previous post.

Judge much? I'm about as proud as anyone else on here who has exchanged experiences and ideas on how to get the best out of their traveling experience - like booking two rooms with the intention of checking-in to one, only to get a better rate.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I discovered one myself by accident today. I got a last minute request from DH to book 2 night at the Marriott Tysons for his friend arriving tonight. I check the price on Marriott.com and was shocked to find it was only $89 per night with the $100 voucher offer. Then I thought I might want to get them the rate with breakfast for Friday night. As soon as I changed to one night, the rate went up to $269 for tonight. I know weekend rates are lower. But I never knew it could pay to book two nights sometimes. So not only the rates for two nights total are $100 lower than one night, they also qualified for the $100 voucher.

And you get 2 nights that count towards status, 2 nights towards a megabonus (if your offer requires nights instead of stays), and higher point earnings. you also get a much later check-out without a hassle :D. We often book 2, use one.

Now maybe we can get this thread back on topic instead of turning it into personal attacks?

I suggest you re-read my post. I do not book 2 rooms to get a better price and only use one. I book Two NIGHTS and PAY FOR BOTH NIGHTS.

Neither of which are the same as taking advantage of a promotion to which I am not entitled.

If you are going to accuse me of something, at least get your facts straight.

My moral compass:

- Failing to sign the chit in the honor bar: wrong, period, no excuses.
- Pouring a stiff drink at the honor bar, I mean a *really* stiff drink: Mmmm, okay, I probably wouldn't get too carried away but as long as you sign the chit and don't get stupid, it's fine.
- Using private corporate codes that you aren't entitled to: wrong. In the hotel space, it's simply a moral issue. In the rental car space, it could become a legal one if you wreck the car as the real value in those corp codes is the insurance.
- Book 2 rooms and using 1 or booking 2 nights and sleeping 1: 100% fair game as it's been described here. No deception or trickery is used to buy the product: it's simply that you don't use it all. I've done it before for EQN purposes and recently to acquire or use bonus bucks. Logical when room rates are below $100 or whatever.

why is this even brought up? I don't see how its even an issue (even if its to beef up EQN or hit some promo target)to discuss other than to let others know how to do it

I'm on the presumption here that you are paying for both nights or using a cert, promo etc to do this.

Thank you pinneped.

On an etiquette note. Currently at Grosvenor House. Booze is free. Watched one couple suck down almost 2 bottles by themselves. Shrug - it's out there. What I thought was a bit tacky was them bringing in the 'doggie bag' from their off-site French restaurant dinner the evening before & ask the lounge attendent if she would heat it up in the lounge kitchen for them (answer was they were unable to do so). Hubby came back later & asked for silverware, so guess the Mrs. decided to eat it cold in the hotel room.

GH did a cool thing yest. It was Valentine's Day, so each person in the exec lounge received a free glass of champagne if they so wished. There were a couple of folk who turned it down - I was tempted to say take it, I'll drink it :D

I miss them offering champagne in the exec lounge as a regular offering like in the past (oh yeah, just last year), but understand why they dropped it. I'd pay for it actually, but can see how that wouldn't work logistically w/ the other stuff being free.

Cheers.

How far does honor go?

I'm not a drinker, so the slips of paper pass me by. However, what about the "free" water and juice and such. I've seen families literally bring in bags to empty the lounge fridge, or load every member of the family with armloads! It really chaps my hide.

One morning in Anaheim, I turned around for 10 seconds to put my plate down and the entire fridge was emptied by one family. I asked the 3 attendants if there was more water - nope. 30 minute delivery time from downstairs kitchen!

"Dishonor on you, dishonor on your family, dishonor on your cow!"

p.s. Love Grosvenor House! Was offered complimentary glass of wine 2 years ago for Thanksgiving. As a teatotaler, declined, but still delighted by the generosity.

On the other hand, there's nothing to say how big a glass of wine (or, when Grosvenor House were charging for dinks, a glass of Laphroaig) should be.

I always pay, but sometimes my hand slips when pouring.

This is the answer. Always have the courtesy and honesty to fill out the slip and include every glass, but the pour is as generous as you desire.

Very interesting answers to my original post. But I think the original logic is escaping the entire chain:

Is the entire chit process just a CYA activity? Does Marriott really care about the profit for keeping a gold or plat happy?

I mean, everything else is free, why the cheap booze?

Btw, I'm in a Marriott property right now, and filled out the chit...
