Concierge Lounge Etiquette
Not sure about this, thought I'd ask: I heard from a colleague that the little slips for drinks in the concierge lounges are really just for show, and that there is rreally no expectation that you will pay for drinks.
Any thoughts?

Really? I filled in my little slip the other week and I was charged. Although I watched a young guy walk out of the lounge with 4 bottles of beer and he didn't fill in the slip (which ticked me off).

I've always paid for my drinks... I have very loose moral integrity, however, not paying is really stealing imo. I rarely am on the "good" side, but in this situation, I don't believe the slips are just for show.

I can't believe that something like this would even be debated on a moral site like Flyertalk.
Failing to pay = theft. It is as simple as that.

So it isn't theft if no one else knows you took something that didn't belong to you?
Marriott puts the slips out for show but doesn't expect customers to pay for drinks? Seriously?
I agree with Nick. Failing to pay is theft. Marriott puts out the slips because they are a business and they charge for drinks in the concierge lounge.

Seems to be the only case where Europeans have an advantage: No slips for adult bev's - even the yummy Tanqueray Gin tonics at the CGN Marriott are free!

If your really unsure, ask the CL attendent if you need to fill it out or not. If there isn't an attendent (and usually there is one around) just call down to the front desk. If they give you the green light to go without filling out the slip, your OK to go. If not, then you know for sure.
Of course if your having a tough time getting up the nerve to ask someone at the hotel, then maybe that's your concience telling you what the answer is.

On the other hand, there's nothing to say how big a glass of wine (or, when Grosvenor House were charging for dinks, a glass of Laphroaig) should be.

Are these slips (only) used outside the US? I don't think I've ever seen one (but then I've only been in a location with a CL maybe 6 times over the last couple of years, so I don't recall).

Does using a discount code that was not intended for you or staying on a rate in which you don't meet the qualifications set your moral compass askew? Wouldn't that be theft as well?
