Can I please get the 15 minutes of my life back i lost when reading this. Seriously.....people care that much? I run....I sweat....I go get water in the Lounge. I really could care less what others think.....does this (and robes) really bother you that much? I wish I had that much time on my hands....and if I did, I would use it for something more worthwhile than complaining to a bunch of people on an internet forum. I feel like I have been sucked into this black hole thread just typing a response....help!!

If the topic doesn't interest you, you should have ignored it. Completely. Some of us do care how we present ourselves, at least in public. It's OK if you don't.

Guy in bathing suit in the JW - Mex City lounge last night. This is after dark...so had to have left the pool at least 30 min-1 hour before.

I don't mind the gym users/runners popping in a grabbing water - Mex city does put water, sodas, juices just inside the door for "carry-out".

To me the lounge should be treated pretty much the same as say, a lobby bar. Would you wear a robe or bathing suit into the lobby bar at a nice hotel?

But all-in-all, the cell phone use in the lounges annoys me much more than the attire issues...

Not a bad idea by any means. And some locations actually do just that.

My thoughts on this...including my earlier comment about making oneself right at home in a public area after having just worked out without showering first have purely to do with being considerate of others. And I'll readily concede that a quick "grab and go" from the entrance area of a CL is different than what I was originally referring to.

I visit the fitness center just about every day when I'm in a hotel. I too like a cold drink after a workout. But personally, I make it a point to have my drink waiting for me back in the room so I don't need to worry about the fitness center having refreshments on hand or whether I'll need to make a pit stop in the CL. I have my drink, shower, shave, and dress and [I]then[I] hit the CL.

Exactly. If someone wants to wear a robe at home or in guest room, that's fine. But you don't see people showing up at restaurants or other public places (swimming pools aside) in bathrobes - because it's not appropriate attire.

Cheers.

Personally I think it depends on the lounge. Hilton has some resort lounges near the pool where it makes pefect sense for people to enter in swimwear. Alternatively if people show up to breakfast in a robe at an HIX or Courtyard I wouldn't blink. I've also been known to frequent the lounge at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe at breakfast wearing sweats.

But robes are clearly inappropriate at a nice inner city lounge at JW properties, etc. just as they would be in a nice lobby restaurant. Nobody wants to worry about sitting where someone else's junk might have touched the seat, not to mention decorum.

And it has nothing to do with WalMart - I find that often the worst dressed are high income people who just don't give a rat's *** or perhaps like flaunting their ability to break unwritten rules.

You might be a redneck, if you think a loosely tied robe and socks are proper attire for a hotel lounge.
More foxworthy material

With my best southern accent

I would have to say with a big smile on my face....my muuuuu thhhh eerr (that's mother in southern speak) would NEVER allow me to wear my robe out in public.

And as my southern relatives would say, "bless her heart".

FWIW - the guy who was in his robe at Grosvenor House in London clearly fell into the "flaunting their ability to break unwritten rules", except I do think it says somewhere in the lounge info something about appropriate attire. He thought he was being cool. The rest of us didn't think so.

Cheers.

So Annoyed with Behaviour in Lounges!

I need to rant!

I am fortunate enough to have Platinum membership and the use of lounges. I enjoy the lounges for relaxing and taking it easy.

I am in Asia at the moment and in a lovely lounge which is well frequented and generally busy.

Now Marriott in Asia allow any Reward Card member to use internet in privacy of their own room.

So WHY am I forced to listen to endless calls on Skype with people screaming at each other constantly ("can you hear me?" "Where are you?" blah blah) and even worse some rather confidential conversations about new bosses and strategic plans of large companies. Most do not even use a headset.

A plea to companies worldwide. Ask your employees to have these conversations in private. And a plea to individuals...... tell your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend that you miss them from your own private room! I don't want to hear it. It really does spoil the atmosphere for everyone else.

And just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, the culprits are almost 100% from one rather large and dominant country!

Rant over!
