Stuck in elevator
A few days ago, I was stuck in a broken elevator at a Residence Inn, for about 20 min. Three other guests and a couple of house keeping ladies were along for the ride. One house keeper said to the other, " they were suppose to get someone to fix this yesterday." I looked at the inspection sticker and it was about 5 days expired.
Despite calls to the front desk, no one had arrived to help. A couple of big guy guests , on the other side of the door, forced the door open.
A little later I went to the lobby , The lady who had checked me in several hours earlier said, Mr Beach we're going to Comp Your Room.
Next morning , bill under door $0. I called down and asked them to add the $3 bottle of water I drank to my bill. On my way out I stopped by the desk . Still $0, " we comped the water" .
Honesty is sometimes the best policy, I explained I'd like to be charged something , so I'll get my 5,000 points for the stay. She understood. $3 back on the bill.
Nothing showing yet on my Marriott Rewards account. Should I expect credit for the stay?
or am I letting them off too easy.
Did I mention , the three other elevator guests , had just spent an afternoon playing basketball , and no showers yet.

Should I still expect my 5,000 points for the stay?

Why are you expecting 5000 points for a $3 bill?

I'm guessing the OP is on some kind of 5000 points every other stay Megabonus. If so it is the stay that counts, not how much you paid for it.

Yes, but there must be a charge of some kind, no matter how small, otherwise it MAY be treated like a rewards stay, and OP will have a hard time explaining same to MR personnel why it should be credited towards annual room night credit total and towards totals for bonus nights, etc.

I don't know how it works, but I think in a situation like this, the comp should work as a payment - i.e. the bill is still for the full amount of the room charge, but the payment is via a "guest comp account" instead of to the guest's personal Visa or Amex. This way the guest would still get the points and night credits for the stay. After all, the guest was prepared to pay for the room when booking, and would have paid if it hadn't been for the issue that caused the hotel to comp the room.
To the OP - I feel for you. I used to deliver boxes of photocopy paper as a part-time job during my university career. The two storey Natural Sciences Building had awful elevators. Most people took the stairs, but when you have fix boxes of photocopy paper, not an option. I once spent an hour sitting in the elevator waiting to get released. At least I was on the company dime at the time, so I was getting paid.
Maybe I should have asked for a free degree?
Just my $0.02.

Did the desk clerk actually verbally capitalize the letters when she said "Mr Beach we're going to Comp Your Room"?

So far, I'm thinking the guy that cleans out the houses on Hoarders after a full day's work, a baby with in ear infection who had cabbage for dinner, my mother, who can complain about anything and everything and would be whining about not having a place to sit while explaining that if one of her children were on the elevator this wouldn't happen because her children are perfect (which is annoying to even her children), a drunk VD-infected crack whore who wouldn't keep her hands off you, and maybe both Jon and Kate Gosselin.
Heck, forget the rest - just either Jon or Kate and 20 minutes would be cruel and unusual torture.

Now I'm wasting time trying to come up with the combination of people to stick you with in the elevator to meet that challenge.

For a free room...bring it!
Never underestimate how cheap I can be!

Two weeks, not yet
Two weeks and no credit for the stay yet. $2.50 charge for in room water did bill to my CC.
I just sent the missing stay form to Marriott, with a copy of my $2.50 bill. I know you are all interested in learning the outcome.
