We chose the W over the St. Regis and Ritz at the time because the point redemption was cheaper (not by much) and we liked the vibe. As of today, the point redemptions for the other two properties have gone way up. For a 5 night stay including a free night, the St. Regis is 572k and the Ritz is 648k. Back when we booked they were each over 100k less. I never thought the W would be delayed in reopening for this long. I can't help but feel slighted if I bite the bullet and use more points to switch, given we could have just booked at the cheaper rate months ago. If we take the risk and stay, it could get pushed back again and then possibly have to pay even more points for St. R or Ritz, or they might even be sold out. This has left us with such a bad taste in our mouths over what was supposed to be a dream trip.
W Maldives management told me they could change my reservation to the JW, which I accepted. It has been over a week since I told them I was okay with the change, but I still have not received a response, so I just canceled my late February W reservation and made a reservation at the JW. Any reason why people are so opposed to the JW? We would have preferred to make a reservation at the St. Regis, but like you said, the rates are much higher now. Even for the JW, we had to pay 50k more points than our original W rate. The St. Regis looks nicer than the W, but it seems you will be paying more out of pocket than at the JW. For example, the scuba diving rates at the St. Regis are twice as much as the JW for ultimately the same experience.

I'm on the same boat here. Only arriving 10 days later. But the W is my back up as my main option is the new JW.

I also have a reservation for mid March. Even if the hotel opens as planned now in the beginning of March, I am worried whether there might be still construction works going on and whether there might be some service issues as with every new hotel shortly after opening. The problem is, I do not have a real alternative for a redemption stay. StR and Ritz are now way too expensive and the old JW is not a real option.

What a disaster. We have a confirmed reservation for mid February and were not contacted yet. Incredible service.

Insane. Las week I reached out to the Hotel Manager that had contacted my friend and cancelled his February stay and they never wrote me back. Last night I checked and saw that it was only 80k more to switch to the St. Regis for my stay (it went down) so we decided to transfer points to my Bonvoy account and make the switch. In less than 24 hours since switching the St. Regis has already emailed me about my stay asking for info and providing details on all they have to offer. Going with the sure bet and a more luxurious vibe made it a win win. Good luck!

Also thinking about switching to St. Regis as the W is not really providing transparency on the renovation process. Still a little bit unsure as I like the W vibe a lot and I read some reviews that in St. Regis there are more families with kids, whereas the W is more couple oriented.

Yeah, we are in the same boat. We chose the W because we liked the vibe and read a lot about it being the most chill and social. Also, the fact that most of the services were less expensive than the St. Regis and Ritz. Ultimately, we think we will spend most of our time in the villa just relaxing so I don't think other folks or some kids will bother us much and we are happy about the more luxurious feel of the property.

Mid march stay as well. Just made a backup reservation at the Park Hyatt. Would prefer to save my Hyatt points but dont want to get moved to JW. Even the new one is that opens. The St Regis did move down in price so I could cancel the w now and book that but then the W will be more expensive if I want to switch back.

Looks like they are pretty confident of the March 1st opening. At least on socials.

How game changing are these renovations from what we know?

I've had a March stay booked for almost a year, and I just got an email from the hotel confirming itself my reservation and arranging the transfer. So fantastic news! Especially since I've been following this thread and have seen everyone's issues. Looks like March 1 is the hard opening date. They have also started updating the main website with new photos and such.

From what I've seen on the socials the new rooms are nice. They have also renamed the rooms as well. Haven't seen anything on the rest of the hotel or what will be new with the restaurants/bars.

Hope this alleviates some people's stress in regard to their bookings.

Is it worth trying to use NUAs here? Is it a material upgrade over the entry level rooms?

Contemplating between the W and St Regis this May for my honeymoon. St regis is booked for a 5 nights stay for 366k points and 1860 in taxes and transport, would the W be a better deal at 298k and 1340 in taxes?

I just flipped my reservation in April back to W from St Regis

Had St Regis booked for 10 days for 942k points, got the W for 745k points.

St Regis can't cancel 90 days before booking but the W is 30 days, so hopefully we get more details before opening and worst case I flip back to st Regis if things aren't looking good. The St Regis bungalows look amazing but I'm mainly leaning towards W for the more relaxed vibe.

90 days? I'm able to cancel up until 15 days before arrival. But fair, hope the W has good reviews after reopening
