Great stay!

I'll agree with that.

I spent a few nights there last year and had a wonderful time. Of course being my first time in NY and being upgraded from my Spectacular room to the 2 bedroom "Extreme Wow Suite" on the 56th floor helped - I didn't want to check out :) (unfortunately I had a conference in DC to go to, and the week at Westin National Harbor immediately afterwards didn't quite compare although I was upgraded to a room with a lovely view of the Potomac).

Bluefin restaurant was great for breakfast per past recommendations.

After a debate between The Court and Times Square, I chose this location for our upcoming trip in April. Hope we made a good choice. We got a great rate ($239) with the promo, we will be staying for 4 nights. This is our first trip to NY.

Any suggestions or recommendations on what to look out for or to ask for?

I love this hotel for the location and the coolness of the hotel, but I don't really like the rooms that much. By NYC standards they aren't small, I'm just spolied by the bathrooms in the newer and recently redone W's. I just don't like tub/shower combos anymore, but for that rate I think you'll be pleased.

But more to your question, as a platinum I've always been upgraded to a high floor or larger corner room, but never to a suite. I don't think there are very many suites, but I don't think they are very giving with them either if they are available. I always ask for a suite and I'm always told nicely that there are none available.

The restaurant is pretty good, especially for the area(there's a bunch of large chains all around), and it can be fun for drinks on the weekend as it's usually very crowded. The club downstairs(Whiskey) was closed the last time I was there and I'm not sure if that's reopened, but you'll probably want to venture out of times square if you want to go out. It's pretty clubby and not as nice of a crowd around Times Square.

Thanks for the reply.

So do you think it would be worth upgrading to a corner room or even spectacular or just take it as it is. Seems like we will hardly be in the room, so just curious.

I am looking forward to seeing the hotel and having a good time. I am sure we will spend a night in times square but more in other areas and experience as much of New York as we can.

Not good. This hotel doesn't have many suites, and it appears to give them (as it should) to regular visitors. If you want a suite in NYC, go to the Court, or the Parker Meridien (junior suites for virtually all plats).

One bedroom had 2 Queen sized beds and the main bedroom with Broadway views had a King with an emormous ensuite. The 2nd best upgrade I have ever had.

GM sent me a nice bottle of red that was enjoyed!

Just got back from a 4 night stay at this W, very nice hotel and location. Staff was really great from ambassador to check-in, we checked in early around 11am and were upgraded to a cool corner room with an awesome view of Times Square. Room service was also very quick and good, housekeeping was super and very clean service along with extra Bliss products. Overall a great experience.

How long does it take to get from this property to JFK for a 9:30 flight on a Sunday?

My wife and I have to overnight in NYC before our CX flight to HKG. The original plan was to just get in the night before and grab a cheap place out by JFK. But with the free weekend nights promo going on, I can leverage some very inexpensive stays (~$65/night) into a free weekend before our trip. At this rate, I would consider spending both Friday and Saturday in the city.

Big question(s): What is the quickest way to get to JFK for a 9:30 CX flight on a Sunday morning? Is it worth staying at the W the night before, or am I better off getting an airport hotel? (If it's the later, I suspect the W one night and an airport hotel the next is going to be too much shuffling around, so in that case, I'd just stick with the original plan.)

On a Sunday morning, you will take less than one hour to get to JFK from the hotel (barring any events that close traffic).

Have a room booked for 7/1 here. I hope it lives up to the hype.
