I have a 'spectacular' view into the Marriot next door. It's noon right now and there is tons of noise out in the hallway- kids screaming, doors slamming (although it's probably like this at any NYC hotel at this time of year).

Wow, I am beginning to worry about my stay here next weekend. I have 3 nights on FWN. Should I change to another hotel??? By now, not much choice is left. Only W New York and W New York Union Square show availability in Manhattan.

On the plus side the bed is perfect, the location is great, and I'm only here for 2 nights. =)

If the room is not "sanitary", "clean" or up to standards why accept it? I would suggest reporting these finding to the MOD. Why?
  • The hotel management may not be aware of the lax housekeeping
  • The management may not be aware the room is not up to brand standards. (which suggest the operations management at this property isn't doing their job)
  • The next guest recieves a subpar room. If you're unhappy with it chances are the next guest will feel the same way.

You have a lot more patience than I do!!! There are a LOT of hotels in this area that at least are clean and you can brush your teeth without worrying about something jumping out of the sink at you!

stayed here on FWN last weekend. the place was 100% sold out. was there fri to mon (it was a long weekend in canada and sunday miraculously counts as a weekend for this promo). the first room i had was upgraded to a spectacular room on 36. it was clean, it was decen size (especially for nyc) and well equipped. whatever/whenever brought extra towels and a razor very quick, no problem. newspapers were only available at the front desk - again no problem.

the last night was upgraded to a suite on 50. huge room - living room plus bedroom, 2 bathrooms, one full one half bath. the living room was spotless, tv big, couches comfy. the bedroom was the same size as the old room i had, but with double the windows (corner room) and with fraying carpet/burn spots in a few places but overall clean and nice.

shower had a few brown spots but was reasonably clean. the brown spots were only on the ceiling - i'm pretty tall so i could see them but they weren't an issue. the best part about the suite was the full sink with counter top in the bathroom (with a really cool sink) as opposed to just a sink with no counter in the old room. the gf really loved that part.

i'd go back. but man does it get packed. also if you're on a low floor or even on a high floor facing times square - loud! try to face the morgan stanley bldg on a high floor if you can.

I'm kind of surprised to see all the recent comments about "worn" rooms with fraying carpeting... wasn't this property just renovated?

I have an upcoming stay on Labor Day weekend. I hope I will not be too disappointed.

I've stayed in some pretty terrible places so I guess it takes a lot for me to complain or request another room. My threshhold is higher than most. I was also staying for free.

My friends that visited also pointed out that it is times square and the rooms probably see a lot of use.

I would recommend the W interior designers stick to dark colors (shower and bathroom floor are white) for the bathrooms so the imperfections don't stand out quite so much.

It's a good thing the rooms aren't very well lit- who knows what might have turned up if I had some real lighting. I did notice several places in the room had been touched up (the paint they used didn't match the original paint).

If anybody else is lucky enough to get room 5303- enjoy!

Yes...just renovated but the reno was done in phases and some rooms are probably already a year or so into their new design. When I stayed at the property last July they had already done several of the lower floors but the upper floors still had the old design.

As posted, we had the fraying carpeting and I think that is mainly due to the way the carpet was installed and the fact that there is no track or metal strip over the area where the carpet meets the tile. Basically bad design and installation planning. As for the room, I would definitely not say that anything was "worn". All furnishings are new and I quite like the new design. Definitely a huge improvement over the old furnishings which were definitely worn and past their prime. I was suprised that they did not change out the actual bath vanity because those could possibly be considered worn in some rooms. They replaced the sink bowl and the fixtures but left the actual stainless steel vanity base and top from before the reno.

OK...........I am curious. What is the story with room 5303?

Fuocotecnico Aug 22, 2009 2:26 am

Booked two rooms from august 8th to 10th. It was my first time at a W.

Amazing stay, nothing to complain about.

Hotel was full at the time of check-in, so when I requested for an upgrade I was first denied and then given a "cool corner" room (basically a standard room with two floor-ceiling windows).

Renovated rooms are great. Had one on 14th floor and one on 34th. The rooms are pretty spacious, and so are the bathrooms. Only minus was the noise coming up from Times Square (well, not like I wasn't expecting it, of course) but I had the feeling that the windows were poorly isolated or not thick enough.

Overall an A hotel.

About to book this hotel, but the consistant changing reviews on www.tripadvisor.com worry me.

Currently ranked 141 and seems to get lots of 5 star reviews and the a few 1 and 2 stars.

The cleanliness issue concerns me as does the small bathrooms

Are the bathrooms in the fantastic suites any better ?

All that being said $450 a night I don't think I could do much better for the newish room, the size and location.

Any other thoughts

One more question.

Is there anywhere for breakfast IN the hotel ?

Doesn't appear to be! :td:

Bluefin is where you can have breakfast. It is to the left of the elevator on the ground or entry level when you come in.Food here is great.I have just finished a 7 day stay and this is a superb Hotel.Enjoy.
As Cheap Elite would say...if you need a suite book it.The Fantastic Suites are superb.

I can only tell you my experience last year...
One night points stay...
My sister knows the GM there
Upgraded to Cool Corner room (as a Gold)
After walking into my room, knock at the door...
"room service" with a fruit plate...
Very nice, extra water as well. note from the GM.
Dizzying view... nice shower
Great stay!
