Great trip report Bliss. I gave up on the W TS awhile back, but it sounds like I should I give it another try. Thanks for great info and detail as usual.

Wow, within days of Bliss' stay but total opposite of Bliss' experience. No upgrade, no waters, no chocolates, nothin'!

Reading report after report and seeing the pictures, I want to know the BlissWorld secret to scoring an upgrade and goodies.

Wow

All I can say is WOW!

I live in Las Vegas and this makes me want to go to New York connecting through LAX just so I can take that United P.S flight. It looks awesome. I love the your photos of theFirst Class lounge and meal service onboard.

I'm Gold so I probably wouldn't get the Fantastic Suite, but I now have the desire to stay at the W on my next trip. I looks amazing.

AMEN- My (now) wife and I enjoyed 5 wonderful nights at this property for our first date (long story) and we must have scarfed down 10 of the lobster clubs that trip. Although we like the neighborhood better in Union Square, we still make a trip or 2 to TS every so often largely inspired by that very sandwich. In fact were due...

Come after me? Please... ;) Like I said before, I talk the talk, but I also walk the walk, unlike some people. When I say things, I have evidence to back me up. I don't just talk and talk and criticize when I have nothing to offer

My secret is pretty simple. When you take care of the staff, they will take care of you.

For a contrasting recent Platinum experience at the W, albeit at the hotel's busiest time, see my posting here:

Great review! Great pics! What kind of camera is it?

I love the W TS... Even if I'm not staying there, I usually stop by the bar, get a few sushi rolls and get pretty sauced on quality ice cold vodka... Then, I walk over to the mini bar area in the corner with the floor to ceiling glass windows (looking into time square at street level) and heckle the passers-by :D I think once over a period of about 1 hour we got about 7-8 people total to come in from the street and drink with us...

W Times Sq: any diff between Wonderful & Spectacular rooms?

Looks like room size is same (280 sq ft) but the spectacular room is cheaper at the moment. Is it simply floor location?

Also, I was thinking about switching from the W Times Sq to the Sheraton Towers for my last night to save a few bucks and get another stay credit. Am I going to be hugely disappointed? I lost my Gold status this year.

Thanks!

Spectacular room = higher floors
wonderful room = lower floors

Kindly do a search. You will find many informative threads. Just yesterday, we answered your second question in the Sheraton NY Tower thread.

Thanks the quick reply BlissWorld.

Yes, I'm actually getting dizzy reading reviews on the NY properties and I know you are a big fan of the W Times Sq...not sure if all others agree though.

Also, couldn't figure out why the higher floor room was being priced at a discount, as it seems many FT posts on the property are about upgrades to suites.

It depends on what you like, I suppose.

Personally, I think whichever preference you have, W TS offers better amenities (in-room and in-hotel) and service than Sheraton hands down. Since you are not a Plat, club lounge and upgrade aren't issues for you.

However, if you really want to save a buck or two, then I would save W for the last night. Save the best for last, right? ;) If you don't mind spending another 20-50 bucks (or use ~1500 points), I highly recommend the fabulous room (higher floor corner with lots of windows and amazing view of hudson river + partial times square). If you like TS view, book a Kool corner room.

Have you considered Westin TS? As much as I dislike that property, in terms of rooms, they are still miles better than Sheraton NY Tower.

W Times Square Rooms

Spectacular Rooms at W Times Square have view of Bway looking north.
Wonderful Rooms are all others - facing either the Marriott Marquis or an office building directly across 47th.
The Spectacular view is worth a bit extra to me.

W Times Square - sagging beds

What is the hype over the W Signature Bed?

I recently returned from a week in a Fantastic Suite. The water pressure was primo, the a/c was without rattle, the service was outstanding, but the bed was sagging. It was barely tolerable.

It seems to me that a sagging bed is not acceptable given a nightly room charge of $779.

ldsant Jun 6, 2008 6:19 pm

Welcome to FlyerTalk! Did you ask to be changed to another room since you were there for a week? What was the hotel's response when you told them about the bed?

RoundAbout Jun 7, 2008 12:48 pm

I didn't ask to be moved because I expected to find a similar sagging bed and with the risk of less water pressure and/or a rattling a/c. The bed was tolerable but very disappointing.
