A follow-up call today revealed what happened (more or less). There was an obviously bad charge on my card last year that resulted in me getting a new card. Somehow there was an account audit this year that revealed that the Merchant Name on the bogus charge was not the same as the one originally posted. Somehow this audit generated a letter to me with a transaction date somewhat after the original date of the charge. Somehow the person I spoke with yesterday believed that this indicated that my card needed to be cancelled again. I spent 90 minutes in about four different calls sorting this out. I will receive a card tomorrow and spend some unknown amount of time re-entering my card with a variety of vendors with whom I have a card on file.
Somehow I think that Amex security/auditing is pretty lame and that Amex customer service is somewhat lamer. |

Any hints of an extra 20% bonus to AA like last year during this time?

Which one? I tried to use them for the Westin Villas Kaanapali but they wouldn't take points.

Are you sure that they didn't take points or is it that all the rooms are considered premium rooms and stuff require higher points/can only be booked over the phone?

targeted email for an SPG business AMEX offer-technical fail
In July I got an offer by email to get bonus starpoints on my Business SPG AMex, 5000 extra on $5000 spend, and and additional extra 5000 points for another $5000 spend.A total of 20,000 points for a $10,000 spend.
However when I clicked the "register now" button I ended up in a "you're not eligible" screen. "this offer only intended for invited account holders" (which obviously I was) After lengthy time with customer service (45 minutes, changing browsers, clearing cookies, etc.) I was given 10,000 starpoints because I could not get registered for the offer that was emailed to me. Today I got another email with the same offer, except it also said "you may have had technical difficulty registering for this offer-we apologize" So I clicked through the register button and got----another "you're not eligible" screen. Another frustrated call to customer service and this time, it was shorter and I got a $150 statement credit. |

Same thing happened to me. I got the email and tried to register but "ineligible". I may try chatting with them first. See what happens. Thanks for the tip though. I may call to see what they can do. Or get bonus points.
I try the chat but they couldn't help said I need to call. |
I didn't receive the original email but got the "You may have experienced technical difficulties while trying to enroll in this offer" email today. Clicked the link and was told "We're sorry. This promotion is only open to invited Card Members."
I called and the rep was not aware of the offer but did some research and found it under "CAHH:0001". He was able to register me for the offer with the spending deadline of 12/15/2016 and made a note on my account to that effect. This is the type service I expect from Amex OPEN, and they delivered. :) |

Interesting. When I signed up at the end of June I recall the spending deadline was Oct 15th. Has it been extended for everyone or just the latest batch of invitees?
