Thoughts on the new card offers? 2 nights seems clearly inferior to me. My read is that 3:1 conversion rate means they don't want to greatly increase the Starpoints pool and a free nights bonus is more in line with the Marriott program (RC card specifically). I was hoping for 35k to make a comeback, but now I don't think we'll see anything better than 25k until a Chase SPG product premiers.

Interesting. I had 'saved' my application prior to the announcement of the change from points to the 2 nights. When I reopened the application, it now shows the free nights offer at the top :(

The points offer is still available here, but the longer you wait the greater the chance it will be replaced:

The 25,000 point offer is also available when signing up for a new SPG account.
As part of the application for an SPG account, there is a checkbox to apply for the SPG Amex card. Introductory offer of 25,000 points after $3K in spend in the first 3 months. Approved immediately. MR and SPG accounts now linked. Pretty seamless and a great way to get 75,000 MR points. Happy. |
Valuing points over nights, I applied a couple days ago via the 25K bonus point link found at the bottom of my most recent monthly SPG e-statement, capturing screenshots at each step just in case nights rather than points were issued after meeting the $3K minimum spend. My app was approved within a few hours.
I found the following language in the terms and conditions worth noting: "If your application is not received by 1/20/2017, you will not be eligible for the 25,000 bonus Starpoints offer even if your application is approved. American Express reserves the right to modify or revoke offer at any time." I don't know if points bonuses are going the way of the dodo now that Marriott and Starwood have merged, but I chose not to press my luck. |
Received a targeted offer today for an extra 5,000 Starpoints on my SPG Amex:
"You can earn an extra 5,000 StarpointsŪ after you spend $5,000 in qualifying purchases on your enrolled Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express between the time you complete enrollment and December 31, 2016. Enrollment period ends on October 31, 2016." I've never before had an offer like this and had the card for 14 years at least. Interesting timing (post merger). I realize the cc has nothing to do with Marriott, but perhaps Amex is trying to cement loyalty post-merger (since it must now compete with the Marriott relationship with Visa). |

There was a recent offer for SPG Business cards. Yours is a personal card?

I received the same offer on my personal card too. I had it on business already.

For this new 5000 point offer, is it 5000 points for spending $5000 or UP TO 5000 for $5000. This is a difference because you may not get anything unless you spend the minimum $5000. That is the way I understood it when I signed up. The Points Guy is saying up to 5000 point bonus so there's no minimum spend to get some bonus (ie. $4300 gets you 4300 bonus points).
Edit: According to DoC, the 5000 (or 10,000) is a minimum spend. |

Would I be correct to assume this offer is being targeted towards cards that typically have low usage based on dollars charged?
