I think this is a horrible move to make this area into a Steakhouse - it is very large and most people did not stick around here to eat. The restaurant was usually dead!
Maybe I am wrong.
I sure did like the option of a few slot machines on the floor or a little BJ. Too bad they wouldn't have kept a few machines. I'm surprised they didn't do any proper communication on the closure and points etc.,
Well, after Feb.2018 my usual business here of probably 3-4 weeks / year I guess will be going elsewhere. It was going elsewhere regardless of the Casino closure - I thought customer service went downhill and the $30.00/night resort fee!!!!
I just took a peek at the website and there is absolutely nothing stating that the Casino is closing on July 04. It still advertises the Casino plus there is nothing in the announcement section.
Wondering if the Lurkers could confirm on the closure and any information on outstanding Max Rewards?
I don't remember the exact date they gave me, but the casino closure data point is accurate. I was told that a few months ago as well, by longtime property employees.

I'm at the property now and can confirm the casino is now closed. It's been happening gradually the last few days.

The very first casino hotel that I stayed at in Vegas was Maxim circa 1982/1983 (Max Casino at the Westin gave a nod toward the old Maxim Hotel/Casino).

Bellagio wasn't even a pipe dream at that point --- the Oasis Casino at the Dunes occupied the corner. A lot has changed in 34/35 years.

I'm not sure that I would choose to stay at the Westin unless they took the opportunity to self-improve after the closure of the casino space.

So what is happening here right now. I am there in a week or so and on the SPG site the reviews have seriously gone down hill? My understanding was the Casino was closed and that area was under renovations but I am confused with some of the information? I am actually worried now and cannot seem to clarify what is open etc., - I have heard along with the Casino gone, the restaurant and lounge is closed, William Hill sports book is gone, spa is closed, gym is closed etc., ???? This is not good and not what I had planned! What are they doing for the Plat breakfast if that is the case; I would only assume they are waiving the resort fee? I have had this reserved for quite some time and no communication to the customers about this? I went on their website to announcements and could find nothing? Wow, what has happened to the management at this place.
My last stay I had a minor error on my billing. I had a prepaid rate and then 1 week later another extra charge came on my credit card. I emailed the hotel and somebody in accounting sent me back - I then responded saying he was incorrect and never got anything back! I was so p@@@ that I couldn't waste my time - It was minor but so wrong - I should have escalated to SPG corporate.
Does anyone have any updates on what is exactly happening here and what is closed etc.,

Ummm... have you considered just picking up the phone and calling the hotel directly with your questions?

Regards

Relax. I'm told the restaurant is open for breakfast albeit in a different location then before. The spa and fitness centers are open as well. To my knowledge there never was any lounge at this property so I'm not sure what you are referencing there (unless you mean on the 2nd floor where they had a few printers). The renovated rooms are nicer then before the renovations so it's not so bad...

Thanks.......that will be fine then.....I was just referring to their lounge/bar on the Casino floor.

btw.....I don't call that place anymore. I get much more accurate information on here from people that have physically been there.

Stay Report - 8/25 - 8/26

Location: The hotel is located on the corner of Koval and Flamingo. You can turn into the hotel while going east on Flamingo which is really helpful. Walking to the strip is easy though you go past some pretty seedy places including a liquor store/bar that was searching everyone who came in at night. It's an easy 15 minute drive to the LAS rental car center.

Hotel: Parking is still free here and even during Saturday on a fight night I had no trouble getting a spot in the parking deck. The hotel is still undergoing renovations which have included taking out their casino to install new restaurants. There's a 24 hour Starbucks that's still open, the restaurant is currently in an old ballroom as is the lounge which is open from 5 PM to 12:30 AM. There's also a small bar near the elevators with very little seating.

Check In: We were able to get to our room at Noon which was great. The agent was very friendly, offered us points or the amenity and helped to explain everything about the hotel. As a SPG Gold we got a high floor and upgraded view of the strip.

Room: Decent, but not really very Westin-y if that makes sense. For one, there are no outlets near the bed. The bathroom was also old and not overly impressive. Wifi is pretty slow too. Still, it all worked well enough.

Other: We had originally asked for a 4 PM checkout but were running late and got 4:30 for no extra fee which was great.

Our rate with the absurd resort fee came to $93 with tax. This is a good place to stay in Las Vegas if you need a place to sleep near the strip and you want free parking and like to earn points. I'd be back.

Booked it back in March through the Starwood website. Long before we knew there'd be a big fight that weekend

Stayed in September. Still renovations in the lobby/former casino area. One important thing to note is that during the renovations, there actually is no bar area with seating!

Also I tried looking on the hotel page/SPG website, I cannot find any notice about the renovations. Can any of you?

There was a small bar/serving area, that had 4 bar chairs, that was it. They also did not have ANY draft beers, and only had US Domestic beers, e.g. Miller Lite, Budweiser. No Craft beer at all. They did not have glasses, and poured these into a plastic cup. There apparently was a "Pool Bar" which was supposed be open until 10PM according to front desk staff, but at 8PM it was already closed.

Needless to say, we went elsewhere for our beers. Very disappointing stay, especially since the rate was over 140$ incl. the "resort fee".

I just completed a 4-night "stay" at the Westin Las Vegas last week. I put "stay" in quotes because it was really just an inexpensive mattress run to get the four nights I knew I'd need to prequalify for Plat50 this year while I was in town for a convention (I was staying at the convention hotel--where I was required to stay).

So I really just checked in, went up to my room, looked around, took all the toiletries, and put the DND on the door (and did MAGC). Then I went back to my other hotel and never came back.

So while I can't provide info on the actual experience of staying here, I can at least provide a few tidbits:
  • As a plat, I was upgraded to a "Premium" room on the top floor. I have to say, the room was really quite nice (if it wasn't so far from where I needed to be, I would have rather stayed here then the convention hotel). The room appeared to be recently remodeled. Nice furnishings in the neutral Westin style. The room even included a small couch. Convenient plugs (electrical + USB) on either side of the bed as well as at the desk. The room also had rather high ceilings, although I'm guessing only the rooms on the top floor are like this. Really nice view looking southward along the Strip.
  • Since I wasn't going to be actually staying at the hotel, I took the 500 points as my plat amenity in lieu of breakfast. So can't comment on the breakfast.
  • The lobby area is still under renovation. No casino, no new restaurants. There was a Starbucks, and whatever the current restaurant is that serves the breakfast. No club lounge (at least that I was told about).
  • This is one of those SPG hotels that does the MAGC by just asking if you want to participate, and giving you the appropriate number of points automatically based on eligible nights, dispensing with the vouchers slipped under the door each night ^.
  • And finally, probably the question most of you are curious about... At check-in, I inquired about removing all or part of the amenity fee (fka the resort fee). The FDA said that management will not allow the fee to be waived altogether, but he would take off $10.00 each night to cover the free Internet part of the amenity fee. Better than nothing, I suppose. BTW, the FDA was very friendly and professional, and apologetic that he couldn't remove more than that.

All in all, I left with a pretty good impression of the hotel. I'm not sure if I'd stay here if I was doing a "Vegas weekend", but if I were here on business (and didn't need to be at the convention hotel), I would definitely consider staying here again.

Last trip to Vegas I stayed at the 4 Points. The rooms were fairly similar, especially since the Westin has never upgraded me in 10+ stays. For $5, a 24-hour bus pass got me to/from the Strip in little more time than the walk from the Westin takes. As long as the Westin continues this resort fee sham (especially with all the construction going on), I'll be staying at the 4P when I need SPG in Vegas.
