Stayed in September; this place was nice. I wasn't expecting much based on this thread. I opted for the 250 points as the welcome amenity, and they gave us additional drink vouchers anyway. In addition to that, the check-in clerk stated that we were randomly selected as the guest of the day and offered breakfast or 1,000 points. I opted for the points, but only 500 posted. Not worried as it was a BRG and I received 2,000 points anyway! We were given a standard room on a high floor with a view of the High Roller.

My review (a bit negative);

Thin walls have allowed me to hear people talking loud, and what I believe this morning (judging by the aggressive curse words and demeanor) - was a couple next door having some intense.....moments together. I have complained once about noisy neighbors already, but this is Vegas, right?

Next, emergency vehicle sirens seem to go off "all throughout the night", and I have been woken up 2-3 times as a result. I am also on the very top floor, which is something like 17 stories up.

There is a free beer/appetizer thing that goes on every night at the pool for one hour. It is like a nice Sheraton Club basically, minus the free soda, and other amenities.

First Westin for me. I enjoy the Heavenly bed, the linens and towels are almost what I would say is a "brand minimum for me". Aloft as well has decent towels/linens and I just hate staying in cheap beds. Starwood does alright here.

I am a business traveler. There is no real office chair in this room. They have a generous sized desk, but the chair is just a chair.

As of the present moment, when you walk in, it is a casino floor, and half of it is being tore up. So I imagine that the casino floor/lobby will be a bit of a mess for a little while.

Lastly; I enjoy the "real 24 hours Starbucks". This is such a time saver for me. I love on-site Starbucks. The hotel is alright. It is the best Westin in LV if you want to be near the strip. Walking distance to many of the things you might consider doing.

For me though, as a business traveler, I think I will have to check out the Element hotel in LV, after I complete a Hilton 4 stay challenge to get 25k AA miles

If there was just a little better insulation, it would be a bit different story for me.

I have never seen a truer statement written on Flyertalk (or in the bible for that matter). The rest of your review is appreciated even if it is more subjective than that statement

There is a Westin just out of town by the lake so no need for sarcasm.

And there is a need for those who can't tell the difference between sarcasm and a gentle ribbing to jump on others?
I am well aware of The Westin Lake Las Vegas which could hardly be included in a list of Westins near to the Strip

Hah, I laughed!!

I did receive a survey offer from this property yesterday that involved a random drawing for a 3-night stay. They asked questions about the casino and spa on site.

I just stayed there again for the umpteenth time. I simply love this place for the location and serenity it gives being so, so close to the strip. They did have the floor ripped up as it looks like they are laying new carpet - I'm surprised they are renovating the lobby area etc., and not tackling the rooms?? I had two different reservations and no luck with the suite awards. I think this place only has 2 suites or something anyway but I was just trying to use them up but can't even seem to do that????? I really wouldn't call them suite awards cause most of the time you are awarded with nothing and they expire? Just my thoughts. It was interesting to receive that survey as I too did also receive the same asking questions about the casino etc., - why it was interesting you ask? well I was speaking to one of the employees and it sounds like the Westin management might be trying to get rid of 777 Gaming ( I believe that is who is managing the gaming part ). I was not sure as to how to take that - was it meaning that they were still going to keep the gaming or get rid of it altogether. By the looks of the survey I would say they are looking at getting rid of it altogether? I personally like the small laid back Casino - we always enjoy starting our evening there and ending it!! We will see what happens - not sure what they would put in that area if gaming was removed? I understand that their evening happy hour has went outside and apparently the timelines have decreased significantly and also the offerings? This was the first trip that I did not partake in it - that is another negative against plat treatment......not the end of the world but there is not much else being offered here. I did have my resort fees removed which I was very grateful for - If they would not remove those fees I probably would not stay here based on financial sense with all the deals on the strip being a leisure traveler and not here on business.

The evening happy hour is very strict in regards to timing, from 6pm to 7pm. And they were generally bombarded with guests. So you were waiting in lines and walking up to ask, "what do you have left?"

Anyone have recent success getting them to refund a resort fee for plat on a prepaid res? They wouldn't do it when I stayed there last summer.

I would be surprised that the prepaid rate includes the resort fee, usually it would be added to your folio when checking out. If so, I would say your chances are very high at getting the fee removed...

It does show in the charges but resort charges in my experience are never charged at Starwood hotels until checkout.

The breakfast you would get is the full breakfast at the restaurant (it is not that great).

No problem getting the resort fee removed 2 weeks ago.

Also got upgraded to the "high roller" full suite. Considering it was a 4 night stay, I was pleasantly surprised.

They definitely put the fee in the prepay charge. I was told when I stayed there on a prepaid rate last summer they couldn't do anything about it. I have to go again this month and am wondering if things changed

I stayed just a few weeks ago in mid-Nov. I am plat 75 and they did not charge the resort fee. Although the element by Westin in Summerlin is much nicer in my opinion. It is also cheaper, if you have a corporate rate.

MUCH nicer
