Got a platinum upgrade from standard ocean view to Premier Junior Suite. Balcony off the sitting room has a spectacular oceanfront view complete with incredible whale watching.

I’m staying at the Westin Maui right now, and I wish I had heeded the many suggestions of other Flyertalkers and stayed at the Sheraton.

I’m only a Gold, and it’s clear that Gold status means nothing here. I can’t imagine being assigned a worse room: 5th floor, parking lot view right over where all the construction equipment is located where they promptly and loudly start work at 5:30 am each morning.

At check in I asked if I could use my Gold Welcome amenity to select free Wifi. “No sir, everyone at the resort must pay for wifi it's manditory, the fee is $25 a day and includes parking and 2 daily bottles of water.” “Okay, can I select points for my welcome amenity?” No sir, we don’t offer a welcome amenity, but as a Gold you are entitled to 10% off services at the spa.”

One of the reasons I selected the Westin over the Sheraton was the heavenly bed.… The beds in our room are so saggy, they must by years old. Additionally, one of my biggest pet peeves are hotels who use flat sheets instead of fitted sheets for the bottom sheet. I can't stand waking up in the middle of the night with my feet on the mattress because they are too cheap or too lazy to use a fitted sheet. If you haven’t figured it out by now, the beds here are AWEFUL!

Oh, and those two bottles of water that are included in that mandatory $25 fee? 3 out of the 4 days so far I’ve had to call down and request them because they forgot to deliver them…

Question on current $100 resort credit

SPG is running the 5th night free and $100 hotel credit promotion for this property, but the T&C do not specify whether this offer applies for reward stays. I'm staying 5 nights on points at this hotel in September and I know the 5th free night is built into the total points price, but I'm wondering if I should expect the $100 credit in addition to the 5th night free. I haven't booked yet.

Those promotions are almost always for booking very specific rates (which are usually overpriced to compensate for the savings). I would not expect to receive the $100.

Yes, but did you actually read the T&C or know of someone who has had experience with this offer, or is this just a guess? I agree with you that these offers are usually for overpriced rates and you aren't actually saving any money, and the fine print always will negate the savings, but my point is that in those cases you can always see that in the T&C. This specific offer's T&Cs don't actually say anything about using points and given that SPG points are very valuable and they are not subject to blackouts I wouldn't assume you can't get the $100 just because other programs throw in worthless teaser promotions.

I'm a little confused by the question. Are you asking if a $100 resort credit applies to a 5th Night Free Award?

Hi Bill,
On the SPG website there is a current offer for SPG properties in Hawaii and French Polynesia where you can get the 5th night free AND up to a $100 hotel credit. You can even look at the properties that participate and actually see the amount of credit you can receive for taking advantage of this offer. The Westin Maui qualifies for the full $100 credit when booking 5 nights or more.

From reading the offer, it is pretty clear that as long as you book 5 nights, you only pay for 4 of them AND you receive also a $100 resort credit for this particular property. What isn't clear is whether you can receive this $100 resort credit on a reward stay.

Do I make sense? Can you clarify?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. This is for paid-rate reservations only and does not apply to awards.

Anybody know the key differences between the Premier Suite and the Executive suite?

When I opted for the suite night upgrades it offered me the Premier (they call it Junior online) but I have been confirmed into an Executive.

On SPG the Premier is described as 844 sq feet in the Beach Tower whilst the Executive is 700 sq feet in the Ocean Tower. Anybody know the key differences between the Premier Suite and the Executive suite?

I just want to ensure I've got the best one.

Thanks

I would take a room in the Beach tower over one in the Ocean tower any day. The Beach tower rooms are newer and are closer to the ocean. The older rooms in the ocean tower are not nearly as nice and the suites are not worth it. We've been staying at the Westin Maui Kaanapali for the last 8 years and the suites or even Deluxe OceanView rooms in the beach tower are so much better. I would request a room facing the pool as the ones facing Black Rock have a nice sunset, but you are going to be awakened each morning at 5am as the delivery trucks for the restaurants at Whaler's Village next store "beep beep beep" back into drop off their goods.

Thanks.

Just checked into the Executive suite on the 11th floor of the Ocean tower and have to say, very satisfied with it. It doesn't feel old and the 3 ocean front balconies are fantastic. Lots of space, way bigger than the 700 sq ft it says online and also has 2 separate showers. I may ask to see a Premier suite just out of interest but no complaints.

Have a reservation on hold using points for 10 nights in a 844 sq ft Jr. Suite (Ocean View). Anyone have any input/comments on these suites? I am skeptical of the "ocean view". Can anyone comment on how good or bad the view is?

Thanks!
Dave
