Do not eat breakfast at the ground floor cafe

This hotel is the oldest but cheapest hotel in the Eastern quarter of Beijing, offering good value for money in a good location. Stayed that many times over the past several months. Rooms were decent.

Usually grab a sandwich and coffee on my way out in the mornings, they were reasonably priced and pretty tasty. On my most recent stay, booked a rate inclusive of breakfast, just to try it out, boy did i regret paying a premium rate for the worst breakfast i have ever had in any hotel in China.

The buffet and wait staff quality felt like a cafe outsourced and ran by a Chinese State Owned Enterprise of some sort it seems, whom could not care less to clear away the empty plates. Horrible selection of food, chefs not bothered to clean up, plain disgusting and fruits which appears to have be cut the night before left out in room temp, looking dry and some pieces of watermelon did tasted a little off.

The most shocking phenomenon ever was a server taking three almost empty or semi-filled jars of milk from a huge and messy pile of cleared plates with un-eaten food, napkins and other stuff, you get the idea....... combing these jars of milk when some poor guy asked for milk for the horrible cold coffee, kept in thermos flasks, not on a warmer. Fortunately he was seated back facing out of view of the server, but i was either too fortunate or un-fortunate to have witnessed this absolutely unacceptable ignorance to basic hygiene and nonchalant attitude.

Are there different lounges for guests on the Elite floors and the Club level floors? Also, what's the difference in the rooms on each of these floors?

Does the hotel have a sauna/steam room?

That is wrong, if a club room is available at check-in.

I’ve stayed only once at the GW Sheraton, 3 years ago and will never go back. I do not need to add to the bad experiences listed here but mine involved poor cleaning of the room and poor food. I stay now at the China World Shangri-la Hotel for service or the Beijing Hilton due to location. Traffic in BJ always should prompt you to stay at the closest good hotel you can secure. If you have never tried a Shangri-la property, go ahead and give it a try, they will not disappoint. Be sure to join their Golden circle.

Just noticed this hotel has been downgraded to CAT 2. It used to be the first SPG hotel in China.

Did anyone stay here recently?

Planning to stay here a few nights in February and March 2012, as their C&P are a great bargain compared to other SPG properties in PEK.

I'm interested in possibly staying at the GW in late November (probably 3 total nights between 11/20 and 11/27). I'm going with 5 other family members (2 children), so looking to book a total of 2 rooms.

What lounge have plats been getting access to--elite or club? What's the difference in the two? How stingy is the hotel when it comes to only upgrading a single room for aplat, and how many guests have you been allowed into the lounge?

I know there are limits as to numbers of guests for lounge access. Different properties handle these things differently, so any advice or past experience you've had would be very helpful.

I'm also considering some of the other SPG properties, but the rate here is excellent (either cash or 4K points)!

Chiming in here again... any recent reviews and experiences on this property?

I need a filler between my Stays at another hotel.

Has the issue with 'no club room' been fixed (maybe with communication between Starwood Corporate & the property itself) ?

Cheers

Anyone?

I have a couple of stays coming up here next month.

Is it easy to score an upgrade here? How is the elite lounge?

Time stood still here :)

Staying here for 1 night now, booked C&P award, great value

Was preupgraded to a jr. suite from a couple of days back. Arrived at the hotel, enquired about non-smoking suite with twin beds, and was given one on the 7th floor. The suite is small and outdated, but still comfortable, and it is possible to close the sliding doors to divide the bed- and living rooms. The bathroom is quite small as well.

The executive lounge is fine, drinks and a lot of variety regarding snacks.
