Wrong post but since the filler is going to remain anyways, I would beg to differ on the premier college town being Ann Arbor. Having gone to school in South Bend (midway between Madison and Ann Arbor) I would say Madison has a slight edge over Ann Arbor especially around Halloween...

You've now cast doubt on the veracity of any of your posts.

In what respect are you basing your assertion of Ann Arbor (I've been a few times, wasn't hugely impressed with the town itself, although I may be looking into graduate school there if I don't pursue this hotel management thing). Football weekends there are of course crazy but I think that Madison, in conjunction with their Halloween party has them beat even there. And we certainly can't forget about Austin, although admittedly Austin has a lot more there than just UT.

Just for kicks:

Madison and Ann Arbor are both great college towns.

South Bend, on the other hand, is just terrible.

Haha I wholeheartedly agree with that comment. And with the ever increasing crack down on alcohol on premises, the administration is choking what little college life is left in the town to death.

eh those are all poor examples of college towns....everyone knows there's only one college town...and it's East Lansing (ugh you wouldn't believe how rudely A2ites treat EL'ers who move to their town...I just never understood why, and no sorry haven't lived in A2 for years, well a decade +)

I knew that sooner or later you would raise your perverted views on this subject. To other FTer's: please don't let this blindspot of Soc's cast doubt on his Marriott posts, which are generally accurate and helpful.

That's ok Bill Tiefel was a MSU grad and he was very instrumental in creating Marriott (was a past President of Marriott Lodging-was in charge during the large growth years)

I have nothing but respect for Mr. Shaw, he is a great leader but....he's not Bill Marriott (who btw is a Utah grad)...it's not often you find leaders like Mr. Marriott

Too bad it'll be a Notre Dame grad buying Marriott out ... joking... although do look for another major hotel chain to start forming in the next 10-15 years...

oh you wont have to wait that long, knew brands/chains are started all the time....but unless something drastically changes (note: this is purely speculation with very little behind it to form my opinion) I believe the next CEO will be a Cornell Grad

Socrates, I was referring to myself as I am going entrepeneurial, although admittedly, I don't necessarily see my initial market overlapping with any brands that Marriott currently has in place. I am initially going to start with smaller luxury boutique hotels in smaller markets, such as the Inn at Entrada in Saint George, Utah and the Hotel Donaldson in Fargo, ND (both of which I would highly recommend if you've never visited either). Then continue with expansion into other markets throughout Europe, and eventually (probably not within my lifetime) expansion into the larger markets in the United States, competing headon with the like of FS Marriotts, Starwoods, and Hiltons.
