Had a couple of nights stay there last week, have only good things to say on the hotel.

- Hotel standard is very high. In particular, the Classic Suite we were in was one of the few I've stayed in with SPG where you actually can tell which country you're in. OK, it's a bit of a tartan overload for some but is very well done and lets you know you're in Scotland.

- Lounge is excellent. Breakfast options include a wide range of cereals, breads, fruit, meats and some nice stodgy bacon rolls. Evening drinks have a good 5 or 6 hors d'oeuvres and a wide selection of alcohol available. Staff were young but enthusiastic and did a good job when busy.

- The first person to greet me at the door knew my name even though I'd never been there before. OK, I'd submitted my photo to SPG before but still shows they do their homework. Good effort and it's the small touches that keep me coming back.

- SNAs confirmed 5 days out even though Edinburgh festival was on. Didn't get a Castle View but more than happy with what I got.

- Spa/ pool is nice although water is a little chilly for someone from the Middle East! No charges and they confirmed I could use the thermal pool for free, although I had my daughter with me and kids aren't allowed.

- Location is good enough, it's a 10 minute walk from most things in Edinburgh. Great for exploring.

Would definitely recommend the Sheraton and will definitely be back.

Current datapoints from a stay this week :

1) Platinum members may take breakfast in the main restaurant instead of the club lounge on payment of a £5 supplement.

2) Platinum member, club room upgrade, rate plan description "Free access to spa facilities" was told, both at check-in and by the OneSpa reception, that entry to to the full spa was "at a special discount rate of £25 instead of £30".

She said she will ensure that everyone is aware of this moving forward.

So we shall see; and if it happens again, we'll wash, rinse, lather and repeat until they get it right all of the time.
It's happened again.

3) The two Cleopatra baths, next to the main pool and thus accessible to fee-entry guests, are 'out of service for essential maintenance'.

...and I can report back that the hotel has responded and confirmed that they do honour the free spa entry that comes with the club room rate plan for upgraded platinums, and acknowledged that there was a specific procedural error when processing my reservation which resulted in the issue I reported.

Looking forward to my next visit now.

just like I reported it back in july13!
returned there and same issue happened!
wouldn't it be nice for platinum guest to have a consistent program so you are not playing multiple choice with each property and guessing what is going to happen upon check out?

I have stayed at this property several times in the fall and can report these baths have been 'out of service for essential maintenance' since October 2013.

Hi everyone. Is this hotel worth £377/night for a classic twin room, during the Tattoo? DoubleTree (for reference, not comparison) is £239/night for same dates. Thanks

Also, is there a privacy issue with the bathroom? I'm sharing the room with family...

This will be a problem. I stayed in a Castle View deluxe room in October 2012 during my honeymoon. The bathroom is only separated from the bed by a very sleek and modern glass door. The toilet is also only separated by a glass door. Without being too graphic, there was no privacy. Also, the toilet and hallway shared one glass door that swung in two directions. It was weird and acoustically revealing.

August is the busiest period and for 3 weeks of Tattoo, they are generally booked up. I would wait and keep checking the rates as you get closer, as I am sure you'll get a better rate getting close to June/July...
Bear in mind that Ryder cup is coming up in September and leading up will defoe get the rates to a premium...

No!

The tattoo isn't a particularly big draw in terms of hotel business, although it does push prices up a bit. The biggest issue by far will be staying during the festival. Within that peak there also super-peaks: the TV festival, the film festival, the weekend when the book festival overlaps with the Fringe festival, and the August Bank Holiday weekend. If you're trying to stay during any of the those periods, you'll be lucky to find a room at any price. But it's never worth paying £377 a night! Stay somewhere cheaper and spend your money having a better time while you're in Edinburgh

These are, though, opaque glass doors, correct ?

Don't think we've ever had a post before from a honeymooner who's concerned there's not enough in-room privacy

Thanks for your input! I'm staying 8th-10th August.

I have a fully flexible booking with Sheraton so it looks like I'll need to cancel it due to the stupid design of the bedroom.

The only annoying thing is that I can only find prepaid rates at other hotels now. August is a long time away and paying £500+ for a non-refundable booking is less than ideal.

Looking at IHG, a twin at Hotel indigo is £300/night. One Crowne Plaza is fully booked and the other has no twins. I'm not paying £180/night for a holiday inn express

The suites have the bathroom (same design though) in the living room.

Thanks. However, I'm not paying £572/night plus whatever an extra bed costs, just to get a normal bathroom. I'll have to stay elsewhere. It's a shame, I was looking forward to staying at this property.

It is only 10k points per night to upgrade to a suite.
