Random drop in rewards?

Enlighten me oh great FlyerTalk hive mind.

All these hotels were booked with my new Marriott AMEX. All rooms were allegedly booked at the AMEX rate. So why did the Zurich stay earn barely any points?

Impossible to say unless you tell us how much you spent at that hotel.

668 CHF.

I was having a heck of a time getting my old Bonvoy card removed from my profile and I know this reservation went through on the VISA, but I had them change it to the AMEX when I checked in and I have the charge on the statement.

Bear in mind the current global promotion, which paid out 2,000 bonus points on the second stay after Sep 21, and 2,000 further bonus points for Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card holders staying at a different hotel brand.

Are you referring to points earned through staying at the hotel or by paying with your Marriott credit card?

This appears to be the answer. OPs stays post chronologically from the bottom up. First was pre-promo. 2nd was first stay in promo period. Next two were expensive and got the promo bonus

Which credit card you pay with shouldn't make any difference on points paid out by the hotel (i.e. what you screenshot).

What matters is base rate (pre-tax/fees) +food/beverage/spa (pre-tax/fees). You should get 10x base + elite bonus on this number, in USD.

Note that it's somewhat common for international hotels to short change you, often significantly so. You have to wait ten days then submit a claim with a fully itemized copy of your folio.

it's an error. Ask Marriott to fix it. Can happen, but its rare.

Exactly. Doesn’t anyone know how to calculate points earned?

668 CHF = $706 USD. I don’t know what the taxes are but let’s say 10% so net of about $630.

Points earned excluding the global bonus should be about 6300 (base pts)+ 1575 (25% elite bonus) + 500 (welcome amenity).

Yes, its not uncommon for the hotel conversion from US dollars to be in their favour, although sometimes it is in the customers favour.

I think we need to distinguish between how common it is to have marginal differences in exchange rates one way or the other, and how common it is to have gross errors. On the figures stated, this case appears to be the latter.

That is a fair comment, I agree. Sometimes the hotel just posts downright bizarre numbers, like in this case. Mostly its a matter of a few hundred.
