Proactive upgrade??

I have a stay in Spain in July at an AC hotel. I put in a request to use suite upgrade awards and was just looking at my reservation and it has us in room type “Presidential Suite”. Glitch or??

Don't say anything and hope for the best at check-in.

It's not necessarily a glitch - I've had some surprising upgrades show up far in advance. My assumption is that this is usually so that hotels can free up standard rooms for group and event bookings, but that's a total guess.

Did you nightly fee stay as originally booked or did it get updated as well? Something to check to avoid any surprises for later.

“Rate” looks the same. I’m using points.

With the stay so far out it can change. I've had multiple rooms booked at Ritz and other big names that I don't get notified but are upgraded and then change as time goes on if people book them.

Keep your fingers crossed! Not sure how a Presidential Suite at an AC property compares to a FS hotel, but hey, I'm sure it'll be a lot suite(r) than a regular room. I have had a couple of Presidential Suites in the past that were not quite what any high ranking politico would have expected; others have been spectacular. Let's hope you get the latter!

I didn’t even know AC Hotels had presidential suites. But I guess it’s more probable in Europe.

Not entirely related to this thread, but did want to start another. Has anyone seen a second "shadow" booking appear that mirrors an award booking, but is a separate reservation?

I have an award booking in July, 5 nights, SNAs pending. Likely will not clear as hotel is very full. I reached out to see re cash upgrades etc and also to ask if no upgrades I could request a quiet room. Hotel was great, wrote back and said they have allocated me a superior room, high floor, quiet etc as back up. Very happy.

In my account now I have two bookings, the first with the original room, and SNA still pending. The second showing as the upgraded room, and as a points advance.

I am thinking this is a systems thing so as to avoid messing up the original booking and assume the two are linked in some way. I recall seeing this once before, but thought I had screwed up and just cancelled the second. Will be interesting to see what happens and whether the second cancels when no points are redeemed etc.

Just curious if anyone seen this. Thanks

Just found my first advanced upgrade (maybe first ever). Booked in a European city in a couple of weeks on a Thurs/Fri night and booked the standard 1 king room. I made the reservation in May and my start date isn't for another 10+ days. My reservation is now showing the Premium 1 king room which is the highest room tier offered at this hotel. Cash rate hasn't changed. I don't know when the upgrade was actually done as I haven't been checking this reservation.

Europe is summer is usually super busy so I'm sure I got the advanced upgrade to open inventory for the lower category rooms. Just surprising since you would think hotels would rather sell out the lower tier and then only sell the higher tier for more money. Oh well, I'm happy. It's just a quick two night stay on a return trip from the Middle East to the USA.

I'll be taking a screenshot of the mobile app showing the Premium room. Then we will see if it sticks when I check in. I never even tried to use SNAs for this (even though I'm going to have plenty that expire June 30).

Edited as hotel proactively addressed the issue.
