This is wrong. Maybe I'm just lucky and picking good properties but I cannot think of a single stay in the past 12 months where daily housekeeping was not available on request. That crosses multiple different HH and Bonvoy brands from limited-service on up to full-service as well as an independent luxury property.

Daily housekeeping may not be automatic anymore, but it certainly seems to be available when it matters.

I can find lots of things to be outraged about with hotel chains but, based on my experience, lack of housekeeping is not one of them and hasn't been for at least 12 months.

As long as daily housekeeping is available on request with reasonably minimal notice (say the morning of the day you want your room serviced), I think the on-request model is a pretty good one.

Again, maybe I've been lucky with good hotels, but I'm not finding getting my room serviced problematic these days at any Bonvoy (or HH, or independent) hotel.

I like the flexibility of telling staff to stay out of my room on days they're NOT wanted! Truly luxury hotels have always been used to servicing rooms at times convenient for/requested by guests.

Trying to find a hotel for 5 nights again in Orlando/Daytona area and disappointed still esp with these price ranges. IMO it's always said to me across the nation that if the "What to expect" page is still the default splash page then that means no housekeeping or other services. So I called around earlier. I didn't think this would be more then one or two phone calls esp with the ones in the $300-400 range but now I see the value of Ambassador service as I go sick them go find me a hotel.

Autograph Daytona - $1k a night, Housekeeping only on the 5th night so the day I'd leave lol, cannot be requested - (No, what to expect page)

Westin Lake Mary - $189 a night, still no housekeeping at all regardless of stay length - (No, what to expect page)

Marriott Lake Mary - $235 a night, no housekeeping at all regardless of stay length - (No, what to expect page)

Residence In Lake Mary - $315 a night, housekeeping but must be requested every day and isn't guaranteed - (No, what to expect page)

Courtyard in Deland Historic Downtown - $349 a night, housekeeping every 3rd night automatically but can be requested every day by visiting front desk every day.

Springhill Suites in Symra Beach - $435 a night, housekeeping only by request by visiting desk every day. - (No, what to expect page)

So well, looks like my money is going to the Courtyard or Symra

I stayed at the Westin Times Square a couple of weeks ago. ZERO room service, even after I asked for more towels three times (and never got them). Then, they realised that they had me checked into two rooms, so when I needed a new key after demagnetizing it by accident, it took 20 minutes as they tried to fix the two room issue. Was told I'd get 10k bonus points, never did.

You could book a $100/night AirBNB and hire a housekeeper with the money you saved.

Not unique to Marriott.

But perhaps unique to the USA? Penny pinching with housekeeping is not something you encounter in Europe, Asia or Latin America.

Don't be greedy :D I'm perfectly happy with 500 points a night. RIP SPG.

500 SPG = 1500 Bonvoy and with inflation and current devaluation should be more. So 1000 Bonvoy isn't greedy at all.

Yes, I've stayed at full service high end hotels in Europe and they're back to twice daily housekeeping without even asking.

This thread is a reincarnation of sorts of this one.

Enough with using "Covid" as an excuse. Everything has reopened and has been reopened for many months, at least in the USA.

Marriott, just define which brands provide housekeeping and which ones do not. Then, we the consumers can make our decisions from there.

Agreed, but this falls into the larger bucket many have complained about how Marriott has lost the secret sauce on brand consistency and maintaining standards. I'm a person who likes daily housekeeping (and evening turndown, which used to be available on request at even the most pedestrian full-service Marriott hotels but now seems relegated only to the luxury tier), but who also recognizes COVID caused/allowed a major break in how things work. Room service is also rare now, it seems. But we will find plenty of folks here at FT who never used room service (and so don't care that it's gone away) and who actually prefer not having housekeeping come into their rooms at all.

I'm fine with having to request daily housekeeping, as long as that service is actually available. To be told it can't even be requested at a full-service property makes that less than full service, to me. I really think, at the very least, the choice should be up to the guest.

You know housekeeping is an issue when one of the major local news channels here in Honolulu did a full story this morning about a hotel announcing a return to daily housekeeping (not a Bonvoy property)

I just stayed 4 nights in Karachi. Hotel was pretty beat down but they had housekeeping.

If I can ever get that stay to post I think I have like four nights to lifetime platinum. Under SPG that was useful. Now, it feels like I just checked a box.

I have just done the free agent thing. It is way easier. No SNA disappointments. I just book a suite. Breakfast is a bit more, but they do not nickel and dime me with some crappy "continental" breakfast that I have to upgrade. The staff appreciate having me there too.

If marriott wants me to value their stupid program, they might start by valuing me as a customer and actually providing something for the 800+ nights I have stayed with them over the past 9 years.

But......

At this point this debacle is clearly our fault. Marriott has shown us exactly what they are and what they will do. It is our fault we haven't paid attention. We still book with them even though they have shown us exactly how much they value our loyalty.

I travel mostly for leisure, and given the unknown to daily housekeeping, I decided to only make 1 night stay,

I would be rather happy to stay at the same hotel for multiple nights if hotels can let guest know that daily housekeeping can be requested and offered. However, given labour shortage and high wages, seems I need to stick to my one night stay strategy for now.

CALMSP Apr 8, 2022 7:42 am

I've never requested housekeeping and only do so if I'm on a 5+ night stay. I have been surprised that brands such as Aloft, in my recent experiences, are doing daily housekeeping, but then the likes of Westin/Marriott are on request only.

That's what I'm thinking about too!

I usually only make 1-night stays as I like trying out multiple properties per vacation. I have been surprised, though - on my most recent multi-night stay, I was at an inexpensive full-service Marriott in the US. Unexpectedly, daily housekeeping was provided without asking.
