There are campaigns where there are additional benefits from time to time.

if so - it offers everything I get - and in addition gives a $100 credit. Seems too good to be true.

Right there is a stay 3 nights pay for 2 nights campaign running for Edition. Where as the Marriott website offers 20% on rooms and 35% off on suites.
Stars rates count for points and qualifying nights.

As a Titanium you don't get breakfast at Edition, that's kind of the whole point.

oh, I see. So one gets breakfast and a $100 credit. And everything else one would normally get a Titanium. So during this promo it would make absolutely no sense to book direct instead of booking EDITION via this Stars program it seems. Is the stars program free to use?

Whenever you can get a STARS, FHR or Virtuoso rate it will almost always be better than booking direct - unless you dont intend to use any F&B and just want the absolute cheapest rate. The benefits of these rates are also generally more adhered to by Marriott hotels than the Marriott Bonvoy programme which is basically a coin toss nowadays.

There is a long thread HERE about Bonvoy and FHR.... with the most recent posts indicating that you might have to follow up
Marriott's own STARS program will always credit to Bonvoy

Weird, I strongly disagree. I've stayed at luxury properties around the world (Aman, Four Seasons, Luxury Collection, STR, Ritz... you name it) and while elite recognition is hit or miss the Miami Beach Edition is one of my all time favorites.
