Two guests instead of one?
I got a good rate on the Delta hotel in Whistler when I booked last month for a stay in January 2022. It's the package below and the same rate isn't available at this hotel now for my dates. I've now noticed that I stupidly put one guest in the booking when I should have put two. But the rate description said it includes breakfast for 2 guests. Is it likely to be OK if 2 of us turn up? I don't really want to add a second guest by modifying the booking as it increases the rate by a lot.
Eat Sleep Play Repeat Package, includes Grab and Go breakfast for 2 guests daily, non-refundable if cancelled less than 21 days before arrival, self parking, see Rate details

Are you sure that it's completely gone? It's usually under the "Deals and Packages" tab.
In any event, it doesn't appear to include any lift passes or anything expensive, so you shouldn't have any problems with 2 people showing up.

Sometimes I wonder if the hotel means two guests as in two people total as in the Marriott member/whoever booked the room + guest instead of Marriott member + two guests (3 people total).

This is how I have always found it. Each individual who turns up for whatever it is, is a "guest" of the property at which they are staying. If one stays alone, that is "one guest" in Marriott (and most hospitality) speak.

That particular package rate has changed quite a bit since I first booked it. It looks as though that package rate (if booked today) wouldn't be higher if it's two people instead of one. I've just checked the rate as a new booking and it doesn't change when it's one person or two in the room. I just can't add a second person by editing my booking online as then it wants to reprice to the changed (higher for one person or two) rate they're now showing rather than the lower rate for that package which I got.
Think we'll just both show up and hope it's OK. Thanks everyone.

That's what I would do, too. I've never had a problem showing up with two guests in the room when I booked it for one. Where I think people push it too far is when the max occupancy of a room is four guests (for example) and they ask "Will I have a problem if my wife and I and our four kids show up to check in even though I booked the room for one person?"

I have never had a problem showing up with 2 people (my wife and I) or 3 people (+ our daughter) when I only listed one on the hotel reservation. As long as you're not exceeding the maximum occupancy for the room (and your not for this reservation), I think you will be fine (at least in North America).

I have had an issue once, in Russia. First they did not want to accept two guest for the room as the booking clearly said 1. Then in the morning they wanted to charge the breakfast for person number two, despite the room rate clearly said includes breakfast for two people. Reason? The booking only said 1 guest. After some discussion the hotel did capitulate, and second morning all was without remarks.
So there might be the odd case here or there, but in the US I doubt any odd cases would ever occur.

In some countries, such as Switzerland, you pay city taxes per guest, so they wouldn't "allow" you to bring more people than announced, unless you have them make the change at check-in, so they can collect the correct amount of city tax. But then again, nothing stops you from sneaking someone in but that's your decision
.
For vouchers and benefits, I've had issues only a rare few times where they said I booked for 1, therefore should only get 1 voucher. But understandably, if the booking was made for two, the rate would have changed... so yeah, it "depends"

As I have posted before Oxford Courtyard UK didnt want to give my husband breakfast as we had booked two rooms. I explained we stayed in the same room but had a second for one of us to sleep in due to his disabilities making him difficult to sleep with. It took some doing but they relented in the end. I think Marriotts disability awareness training leaves a lot to be desired too. They still think disability means someone in a wheelchair and thats it!!
