Bumping this! Would love to do the same

To answer my own question after staying here, yes you can charge the Tre Dita bill to your room.

For 47k this was a very nice hotel, I used a NUA to upgrade to the Caroline Astor suite which was really nice.

Only letdown was there was no welcome amenity in the room at all.

the properties don't have to provide an additional amenity other than the standard welcome amenity offered at check in. some may do so as a nice gesture but not mandated

I know. I saw some posts in this thread where people got a little box of macarons so they do seem to provide a little welcome gift.

Yeah I've gotten macarons before.

I like the hotel. New and rooms are good size. Definitely better than Westin/Marriott/JW downtown.

I do think the hotel caters a bit to the residents/non-guests with the restaurants and room service menu post 10 PM (which isn't THAT late in a major city like Chicago that has a lot of business travel) is a bit of a let-down. I like this hotel vs the Ritz just given the size/business of the Ritz, but both are a level above other Bonvoy options in the city.

Had a recent stay here and would agree with those who felt underwhelmed.

Positives
  • NUA cleared four days out to a Caroline Astor suite.
  • Late check out to 4pm was offered without prompting.
  • Sparkling wine on arrival. Welcome gift was left in the room (small box of chocolates).
  • Suite was huge with great views of the river and a fantastic bathroom and walk in robe. Comfortable bed, nice daybed in bedroom.
Neutrals
  • The location is so-so - kind of at the end of Upper Wacker and not well sign posted. Uber driver got lost on his way to us. It's close enough to be far from a lot of downtown Chicago.
  • In-room dining breakfast was good, not great.
  • Indoor pool is sufficient.
Negatives
  • The suite was very bare bones - like someone had ran out of money decorating it. Two pieces of art on the walls, no desk, no books or bookshelf (was surprised to see these in ElevatorEnthusiast's photos), a tiny dining table that couldn't be used for in-room dining and a couch that may have been recycled from my grandmother's house. A lot of empty drawers. It was surprising to see how much empty space the room had, to a point where it looks strange instead of modern or practical.
  • Service is awkward. Staff mean well but are wet behind the ears. One thing I can't stand is promising the world and underdelivering - if you can't offer something, don't claim that you can. Check-in and the staff member providing our room tour made a big show of the personal butler service (their words) and house car service.
    • The butler service was useful, but it wasn't personal - we never saw the same person twice, and more often than not didn't even know the name of the person visiting our room. It was also frustrating to contact the butler by phone and be placed on hold; felt more like we were contacting guest services than a personal butler.
    • The house car service is first come first served, but when I asked the valet about using it, he responded several times asking if I wanted a taxi instead before admitting that someone was already waiting for the house car. Why do that?
    • Staff entered the room while we were out to drop off a welcome gift and note, but didn't perform any turndown service.
    • On check in, I took the breakfast credit and had an in-room dining breakfast. At check-out, reception tried to tell me that I took the points and wanted to charge the card on file. It was fixed immediately, but then tried to change the subject by asking where we were from? Wouldn't that be on the screen you were just looking at with my file?
    • Had to laugh at being told several times that Tre Dita is Chicago's hottest restaurant - if it is, no-one who dines out in Chicago is talking about it.
  • Not the fault of the hotel, but Miru was largely a bust for a late-night drink. We arrived shortly before 10, ordered, watched the staff goof off, got served two very average cocktails, then was told that it was last call. We opted not to get a second, only to see the staff bust out the cleaning supplies and turn the lighting to high as we tried to finish our drinks. Felt very much like we were being rushed out because the staff wanted to go home. It has a nice setting (reminded me of Aba), but the hotel needs its own bar that attempts to match the luxury setting of the St Regis.
For the prices being charged, my partner prefers the Langham for its levels of service (and their bar is one of the best in the city), and I found Nobu to have a more practical, comfortable room. Both are in more walkable locations too. There are better picks in the city than the St. Regis.

^Agree the F&B situation could be improved or at least have a hotel bar that isn't assc with the third party restaurant

It is free within a two-mile radius. If your experience is anything like mine when it comes to house cars generally, though, that benefit is theoretical: it can take *someone* two miles away; for *you*, ah, well, sorry, it's in use by someone else.

Thanks!

i called and parking is 85 usd. No non valet option. Says we can try street parking instead. I'm assuming it shouldn't be hard to find parking under 50usd near by?

I'm just a lowly gold that is good at earning points. Haven't spent more than 300 on a paid stay before lol

There are a lot of metered spots that won't be suitable for overnight parking. Try the Spothero app to find something nearby. I would not assume sub-$50 is a given, but you might find something.

Passionateflyer02 Aug 19, 2024 9:02 am

Yea seems like I see quite a few within 35-50 range

Traveler56789 Aug 19, 2024 10:32 am

Most of the buildings nearby the StR sell parking spaces on Spothero. Check out Aqua next door (225 N Columbus Dr). It's a nice garage, 1 min walk from the StR and you can usually find parking for <$50/24hrs on Spot Hero.

This is probably entirely subjective, but I wanted to burn an 85K certificate before it expired and was trying to decide between this or the Ritz Carleton. I've stayed at the Ritz in the past but this looked a little nicer and I was ready for a change.

I am just a lowly Gold, so breakfast for me, but are there any good restaurants within 1-2 blocks for breakfast or dinner?

The rooftop bar/restaurant down the street at LondonHouse(Hilton property) is pretty good and it's no more than a 10 minute walk.

Recent one-night stay on points (Saturday night): NUA did not clear but we were "upgraded" to an unobstructed park view. Room was lovely and breakfast was great. Only snag was getting the Titanium breakfast benefit. Breakfast price was applied to my bill and I eventually called and got $60 taken off...as there were two of us, was I entitled to $120 off or is the benefit only $60 per room? Thanks for any help.
