If manual is true, it is crazy and I am happy about it. I have a trip this week and my Titanium sticks around until then, I'll be happy for the potential suite upgrade.

Batching automation sounds appropriate when you have 132,000,000 accounts. This isn't a lab class static data set! It is also the first year rollover under Bonvoy.

How hard is it to create a program that takes the total night count from 2019 for each Bonvoy member and assigns the appropriate status?
Even a student can do this.
One of the things we learned during the merger is that Marriott doesn't appear to have a "workbench/test" system to play with. There's only one system, the 'live' one, as evidenced by these fake hotel listings, which are still publicly visible after all this time:

and don't insult students like that. Back when I was teaching, by the end of the year some of the students were able to do far greater things than I could with what they'd learned.

That's still not a reason for it to take this long. Those who requalified at the same status can be updated first. Then you batch the status earners who retain for 2020 and then those who drop.

I requalified for Ambassador in April last year and my status supposedly expired 4 days ago. As an IT guy, it's pretty comical to see.

that said, at least Marriott isn't Spg, who had windows server 2000 running exposed externally.

Lol I am enjoying your post a lot.
I had no idea Marriott had these fake hotels visible in public.
And I do apologize for insulting students...totally agree students can do far better than that.

When does status expire?

ok, I am sure this is a simple question - and I probably am missing something obvious...but I cant find the answer
Earlier this year I signed up for a status match with Bonvoy - reached it and moved on to now Titanium status - but I can find anywhere on their app or site something that indicates how long it is good for?

..with other programs (like airlines) - it is pretty obvious..... what/where am I missing?

If you qualified during 2021, your status would be good until the end of February 2023.

(i.e. the remainder of the current year and all of the next + a grace period that varies by hotel chain)
