It must be per person. Surely the child price is quoted as per child, and it’s $65/95. So it stands to reason that the adult price is $130/190 per person.

I’m having a little trouble following. If you choose all-inclusive (and booked on points/certs) how much is it per day? Is that the same as full board?

And if both parents choose all-inclusive, does our 3 year old need to also?

I’m also Titanium. Is it even worth it considering we get the breakfast anyway?

Read Bravada04's post about all-inclusive. Should be $230 per person, per day. With the other rates for children being half, it should be $115 for children per day. Bravada's post mentions what is in the AI - the main difference is the free ice cream, unlimited drinks, and free mini-bar.

I assume yes, your entire party would need to. But perhaps you should reach out to the hotel to confirm.

That last question would be really subjective, and based on your personal consumption habits. You would need to eat or drink enough to make up for the additional cost of the package.

Response from the property so far is “Continental buffet breakfast” and also applies to rates with breakfast included.

Got a response from the property. Deduct $30 for adults and $15 for kids from the meal plan rates if breakfast is already included.

Then each portion of the meal plan is roughly:
Meal Adult/Child
Breakfast $30/$15
Lunch $60/$30
Dinner $100/$50
All-Inclusive Perks $40/$20
which makes sense since that’s the exact lunch & dinner F&B credit for Velaa.

But based on the info from the property, child meal plans are half priced but might still get the same F&B credit at Velaa.

I have a perspective on food that is probably unpopular here, but it works for me.

I stayed 3 nights at IC Bora Bora. We did not have free breakfast and opted for it at 1/2 price (for IHG Platinum members), It was $24 after tax. It was substantial enough to cover lunch. For dinner, I indulged in instant noodles and other ready-to-eat food that I brought.

At Conrad Bora Bora, we did have free breakfast. We also had one dinner comped for some issues. It was horrendous. Had I paid for it, I'd be seriously disappointed. My friends did have a la carte dinner at the IC, $100 for 2ppl, more reasonably priced than I expected.

I had some great food in Moorea and Bora Bora outside the resorts. I don't mind going basic on food for a few days while in paradise, when I pretty much overindulge the other 360 days. There's plenty of other pampering included. I also don't care for alcohol, so natural saving there.

If I come here, I'd probably alternate between hotel breakfast, hotel dinner, and my own food for a target of ~$70/person/day. Obviously that's just my own preference.

Not necessarily unpopular.......but I think we need to understand the audience when talking about the Maldives.

I have a sister-brother in-law that would do exactly that and they are quite happy with that. I personally, just don't want to go to the Maldives and always think about what I am spending. I want to land and relax and spend whatever I want.......I can do that but that is just not me. The amount of money that I would spend here would be ridiculous! lol. Honestly, I love my beer/wine when on my vacation ( my real vacation is usually February - this is where I can shut it down) I really like to unwind and I can soak up the cocktails. I can put in a full 8 -10 hour shift per day! - I go to Vegas 2-3 times a year but need another vacation when I return! My winter / February vacation is primarily business class flying (again it's my one real vacation and I splurge on a few things) and I don't travel anymore for my job (haven't for the last 10 years) so this is all personal expenses.

I just can't accept spending that kind of money for a couple of weeks.

I guess I keep my flights for February for Thailand. (If travel even opens up) Been there a few times but never to Phuket so going to try that out! I look at the JW Khao Lak and I feel like I'm slumming it after researching all these resorts in the Maldives!!

1st world problems to be honest! I know so many people that have been out of work since March of 2020! I need to be thankful I have the opportunity to be able to travel to some of these places and have money to spend (just not to the extent of others that is for sure... Still jealous and interested to hear about the resort.

How much does buffet breakfast by itself cost?

Also, has anyone asked for a la carte restaurant menus? I think if just paying for breakfast and dinner without any status, buying the breakfast buffet and eating a la carte dinner might be cheaper?

I’m guessing $30/night for award redemptions. It’s included in the member flexible rate. I think a few of us are waiting on restaurants menus, especially for Velaa and Turquoise (as those are the restaurants that the half/full board apply to).

The packages provides a meal at Turquoise (same restaurant as breakfast) or a dining credit at Velaa. If the Turquoise dinner is not a great value with packages, I don’t see the point in not just eating a la carte so you have more F&B flexibility to either eat less or eat at the other restaurants.

Love this forum...thank you so much everyone...

We pulled the trigger and booked for later this year. For those asking about food, that price is per person per night -AND- they have stern language conditions that prevent sharing etc

We are looking for ways to keep the food budget manageable.
• We are Marriott Platinum status
• We are Amex Platinum card holders.

Presume (yet need to confirm) Marriott Platinum will get breakfast covered (we choose that as the benefit?) - anyone able to confirm? Anything from Amex Platinum (status matches etc) that would assist (probably not as we are plat already)

Understand pricing is high in general, and yet seems insane at $130/half of $190 for full. Presume no groceries or ways to get by? What are the prices of an average breakfast, lunch or ,dinner a la cart? Are there other places where one can walk for food?

Points vs certs

There was post earlier in the tread mentioning book with points and then confirm with certificates.

Did we error by booking with certificates?
Are these not returned if trip is cancelled?

People… this is the Maldives - it’s an idyllic, luxury destination that charges top dollar for a reason. Almost everything you eat and drink has to be flown in and stored in facilities that are expensive to build, power and maintain, and you pay a hotel premium on top of that premium. When almost each hotel covers its own little island, the distant islands around you are hotels or uninhabited, getting between islands involves planes or boats which require imported fuel, time and technical manpower, supermarkets are limited to the few islands inhabited by the locals, this is ultimately a Muslim country than bans bringing alcohol in so you can pay the huge amounts to get it at your hotel, and you’re marooned on a literal desert island with nowhere to eat or drink other than where you are, what else do you expect?

Many travelers save a big chunk of change on their trips by paying with points and getting breakfast thrown in courtesy of elite status, but spending a few thousand dollars at least over a few days is standard issue here. To come into the Maldives expecting to conform to a budget is the wrong attitude and will ultimately disappoint and frenzy you, because the Maldives experience at its heart costs a lot to prepare.

For most and for a reason, it’s a one-and-done destination. If you can swing the outlay of coming and being here, come to splurge and spoil yourselves.

You can select free breakfast as you welcome gift for Platinum status. Amex Plat card gives you Gold status but as you correctly noted you already have higher status than that.

Other than bringing along your own groceries/food in your suitcase there is nowhere to eat other than the restaurants on site. This isn't Paris or Hong Kong; this is a remote island and no where you can walk to.

No if you want to book using your certificates and that's what you did then you're fine.
