Marriott update on hotel portion of the Travel Package (TP) due to coronavirus (3/13/2020)
Members who currently have an active Free Night Award (FNA) expiring in 2020 as part of their credit card benefit, annual choice benefit, promotions or travel package will be able to use it through January 31, 2021
Members do not need to take any action. Members will see updates in their Account on marriott.com by the end of April 2020.

TP cert for dummies (if you are a pro, scroll down):
  1. TP are valid for a particular hotel category - nothing to do with on-off peak, so if you have a cat 4 cert, it is good for any cat 4 hotel but not anything at 25000 points
  2. You need to call Marriott to attach a cert - can't do that online
  3. If the Marriott customer service doesn't seem to know what he/she is doing, say thanks and call again
  4. Once the CSR said it's attached and you are good to go, check your reservation and make sure that the cert is attached
  5. Make a screenshot as a proof of the transaction - just in case.
  6. If you used your cert and need to cancel, the best is to call Marriott, again if the CSR doesn't seem to know what he/she is doing, hang up and call again
  7. Check your account after you are done and make sure that the CSR has completed what you have requested them to do
If you have an existing reservation with a cert attached, and you need to cancel it due to coronavirus, make sure that:
  1. Take a screenshot of your account balance before cancelling the reservation
  2. After the cancellation, note your account balance again, take a screenshot
  3. Make sure that Marriott doesn't credit you 45k points (it looks like they throw you 45k back) that's why you should do 1 & 2 above
  4. Make sure that your cert appears on top of the account activity page (thanks Happy for pointing that out)
If the cert doesn't appear in your account after 24 hours, you will need to call Marriott again because it's very likely that the TP has disappeared. You need to call Marriott to have them ordered a new one - and again make sure that they don't rob 45k points from you account. Once a cert is ordered you'll get an email notification,

Original Travel Package Thread (prior to 8/18/2019):
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...on-thread.html

The terms from "Marriott Customer Engagement Center":
  • Valid for standard room at Marriott Bonvoy participating hotels
  • Award covers one stay of seven consecutive nights
  • Gifting the Hotel Portion of a travel package is allowed at the time of booking
  • Award cannot be upgraded or downgraded to a different category
  • Award can be extended only one time
  • If Member chooses to cancel the hotel portion, they will receive 5,000 points back to their account
  • May be used as a Floater Award (attach, detach)
From Marriott Lurker (here):
The new (peak/off-peak) award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

From Marriott Lurker (here):
If a reservation is booked under your account, you could not use your friend's certificate for this reservation
Members cannot book a Points Advance Reservation for the use of a Travel package Award. They must be ordered and/or attached to the reservation at the time of booking
(This is not enforced. There are plenty DPs where PA and point bookings later have TPs attached.)

There no status requirement, such as Titanium Elite or Silver Elite, for eligibility to order a travel package.

So for Cat. 4 or Cat. 5 it is advantageous (versus redeeming four days worth of points) to redeem a Travel Package even if only staying five days?

I haven't done a travelling package since 2016 (SAN) and 2017 (WAS). I really liked getting those UA miles then!

Sorry I have only done the calculations for 7 nights not 5. The 7 night also included the free 5th night.

Not necessarily...

Leaving aside the fact that most airline miles aren't worth the 60k --> 25k ratio, you'd be better off with a 5, 10 or 15 night award stay than a 7 nighter.

If you absolutely MUST stay one week in the same place with all nights peak award pricing and you are short of miles to take the whole family, then a Travel Package is at least relatively straightforward and not disastrously value-destroying...

Thanks in advance,

You're right, in the past some of the travel packages (particularly for Hawaii and for Europe) were really 2, 2, and 3 night stays that could be used at the same or different hotels within the 7-day period. I used one to stay in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest, but that was more than 10 years ago, and Marriott quit offering that package. Pity.

It would really be nice if they'd offer such packages again.

Wishful thinking! Id settle for the ability to upgrade existing package categories.

Those were never meant to be available to the general public, only Marriott Vacation Club owners (even though I know a lot of people managed to get them). I think Marriott cracked down on that so perhaps you need to go through MVC website, or call in to request them.

5 night packages still offered 55k/110k miles? Anyone know what the cost was for each category (1-4/5/6/7/8)?

Cant attach my cat 1-5 travel package

Just curious if anyone else went through this. Basically after 20 phone calls it became clear that the system was not allowing my travel.package to be attached to a reservation. The csr resolution team came.up with the idea to cancel out.my package and give me points to make up for it and use the points for my upcoming res. All that happened is they added a bunch of points and deducted them so I gained nothing and my reservation still shows that I need addl points... After weeks of reaching out all I'm getting is crickets. So o have no travel.package and no Marriott points in lieu of.it. It's not like this a missing 500 points welcome gift thing, this is over 100k points I'm missing. Not sure what else to do at this point

Reached out to lurkers last week again, still no response. My res shows no certificate from points attached, and I confirmed that with Marriotr reservations- wants me to attach certificate after I have 150000 points in my acct. Really happy this is my last travel certificate and that I'm never ordering another one.

Travel Package 7 Night Voucher Cat 5

I currently have a Category 5 voucher from the old travel packages that was converted to the new packages. It is set to expire in August of this year so i'm looking at possibilities for bookings. I know Marriott introduced the off-peak points pricing recently. For my specific property, I noticed i'm getting a PointSaver rate of 35k for Mon-Thursday and 45k for Friday--Sunday. The total point value is 240k for 7 nights (it appears to taking off one night for the fifth free night on the website). Based on this, I don't believe there is anyway to use a Category 5 voucher to book a Category 6 hotel through some method. However, I just want to confirm if there isn't some way to make this work through Marriott.

Absolutely no way to do it

The TP certs restrict you to category level, unlike the credit card free night certs that restrict you to 35K (or 50K pts). So you can use the TP certs at peak times as long as you choose the category you purchased. The 35K free night certs cannot be used at a cat 5 property at peak times. However the 40K cert (75 night choice benefit) can be used at a cat 6 off peak. Hope that makes sense.
