hopefully this is the right thread. i understand it's still fresh and i have a couple of days to let them work it out but, here's my question.

i achieved SPG 2018 Platinum in 2017 via challenge. in 2018, i achieved SPG 2019 platinum via stays in early July working towards Marriott Platinum Preferred Elite for 2019 as we were under the impression that if achieved before Aug.1, 2018 Marriott would honor. I am going to start looking for those posts earlier in the year.

does anybody else recall that?

also, AMEX Platinum card member (for same current status is kind of lame, imo).

did anyone who receive Platinum today even though they were only suppose to receive gold (due to matching from Amex) end up merging there accounts? Im wondering if merging accounts also kept the status of platinum?

You can merge there.

If anyone does it with SPG Amex Gold (now platinum) please post

Frankly, I think Marriott's best course would be to honor Plat for Amex Plats, at least until the next elite year (only six months away!). After all, before the merger we had Marriott Gold, which is basically the same as the new Marriott Plat (room upgrade, breakfast, etc.) That would give us a soft landing and encouragement to run for Plat on stays next year. I'll be close, but knowing any Marriott stays would get decent elite treatment would certainly encourage me to go for Plat.

My two cents,

I am on the same boat as you. What status would we get by the end?

I can't seem to log into Marriott Rewards at the moment.

But the hotel I checked into today showed me as Platinum Elite, which was a nice surprise.

does this work for you? I have not seen a single report yet where someone was able to merge accounts.

Hi, just FYI I am a former Marriott Gold (via SPG gold from Amex plat) and have also now Marriott Platinum showing in the App. Let's hope this sticks until the end of the year.
