Any thoughts on how to get a reservation without spending more than $1k for two nights?
You can try to redeem knw of those awards for 1k points where you get 50% off rack. Worth asking about

I guess you're right, it's worth asking, but I highly doubt they'll let you do that for a forced reservation.

Great idea, I'm going to investigate. Thanks!

If the property is completely sold out, no they won't. If you want to redeem to use SPG50, the SPG50 rate plan has to be available, which it wouldn't be for a sold out property.

Thanks that's the same answer I got when I called earlier. I was added to a wait-list so hopefully that helps when the blocked rooms expire (if they are not completely sold out). It would be tremendous if SPG had some technology to monitor when rooms become available at a sold or blocked out property.

Any recent updates on this property and plat treatment?

I'll be staying here next week for one night, will report back my own experience.

I had a recent stay and was generally happy with the property.

I received an upgrade to junior suite on 3rd floor which was spacious and fairly recently renovated. The furniture was nice (and had lots of built in outlets) and the 2 tv's had wide array of channels. Even with all the lights on, the room was a little dark which I think had to do with the tinted windows but one of them did open for venting in some fresh air. The bathroom was small but very clean. The club lounge was basic but fine, open on a Saturday morning for breakfast.

The hotel does have a shuttle service which serves the airport and train/bus station. There was no problem for prompt pickup at train station but when checking out, I was told shuttle to airport was full and next departure would be 1 hour or more. It turns out they have a sign up list which you can use to reserve your space but no place is it advertised as being possible to reserve a spot. They even claimed the shuttle was booked up since the previous week so even if I had asked at checkin, it would have still been full. Long story short, after about 20 minutes they had a cancellation and I was able to get on the shuttle. You may want to ask about making a reservation if you want to use it.

The area around the hotel has a number of places within walking distance for food & beverages (& SU Branded Clothing).

Overall, it is a fine place to stay should you be in area and the hotel shuttle service helps avoid high costs (and limited availability) of taxis in Syracuse

updates?

Amazing to see this thread has not been updated in close to 3 years?
This property has been my "go to" for flights out of SYR. Until the Aloft opened over by Destiny Mall. A source knowledgable about the local situation tells me the Sheraton is about to become a student residence? Makes sense to me. Can any FTs confirm?

Two floors of the hotel are currently housing 66 Syracuse University students due to overcrowding at the residence halls.

Stay Report - 9/23 to 9/24

Location: The hotel is located across Waverly Avenue from the Syracuse University Campus. It's about a 15 minute drive from SYR and maybe 8-10 minutes from Downtown Syracuse. Nearby is an active college campus so there are crowds and noise and a ton of kids (be careful driving near the bars, they were spilling onto the road on Thursday night) as well as a ton of restaurants and bars and stores you can walk to. There's also a lot of street parking

Hotel: The hotel is an older property and in some ways it feels dated. There's an adjacent and connected parking garage with self parking costing $16 a day. There's a large lobby which has a business center, a small coffee shop, a small gift shop and a restaurant which is open for breakfast and dinner. There's also an indoor pool. Best of all there's a club lounge on the 9th floor which is open. The hallways are a little ill lit and dated but there were no waits for elevators.

Check In: I had a long wait at 11 PM because there was only a single agent on duty. Thankfully once I was helped by him he was very friendly and helpful and mentioned I'd been upgraded to the Club Floor.

Room: Older but still comfortable. As you can see from the photos it screams 20 years ago. The important thing was the Wifi worked well, there were outlets near the bed and the shower got hot. Also there were no noise issues which I really appreciated. Plus I had great views of the campus.

Lounge: Small but well appointed. TV area, single computer with printer and eating area. It's open 6:30 to 9:30 AM daily for breakfast. Breakfast options included scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, bagels, English Muffins, fruit and yogurt. Plus coffee and soda all day.

Overall a nice hotel. I appreciate the elite recognition and the lounge. I'd be back.

The news story says the loss of the hotel's 235 rooms will be 10% of the hotel inventory in the entire city.

It will close after Syracuse University commencement on May 12, 2024, according to this news story:

The building will be remodeled over the summer and open as dorms in the fall.
