Property is a resort, so Autograph Collection resort benefits apply.

Confirmed list of benefits for Marriott Platinum Elite (and higher) members:

— Welcome Gift of 1000 Marriott Bonvoy points (per stay) OR continental breakfast at Manta Restaurant for member +1 (per day). See post 595 for a recent report of the elite breakfast benefit.
— Eligible for an upgrade and late check-out, if available.
— High-speed internet

Confirmed list of benefits for ALL Marriott Rewards Members:

— Free wifi (3 devices max, also extends out to the beach area)
— 10% discount on breakfast buffet at Manta Restaurant (3/29/21 unsure what is offered as there is no buffet)
— 10% discount for MKBH's twice-weekly Luau dinner and show
— 2 comp rental club sets with 2 paid rounds for golf
— 2 comp tennis racquet rentals

Maximum # in room is THREE (which is strange for a family property), but multiple calls to property have confirmed this/they're holding to it.
02-02-2024 Website now says 3rd and now 4th adult in room is $95 extra per person
Parking:

— Electric car charging stations: 4, For a fee
— On-site parking, fee: 30 USD daily
— Valet parking, fee: 30 USD daily

We have a week reserved in early November. I am not embarrassed to admit that every so often, when cabin fever hits, I scroll through the pics on the hotel website. It’s surprisingly uplifting.

I feel the same way!

Have a September booking which I hope will stick, but the bigger issue is if I can find a flight to KOA at that time, being as UA have a waiver for travel to KOA etc, thru the end of September.

With the exception of Delta doing some red-eye Kona-LAX flights - all the airlines have pulled out the Big Island to Mainland flying. The 14 day quarantine has been extended to June 30 - I suspect the State will update by Mid-June and if it is lifted, UA and other airlines will reenter the market with Big Island - Mainland flying.

I'd be really surprised if this hotel really opens June 1 - the quarantine for visitors is getting more and more enforced each day - and most hotels are only providing a single use room key to enter the room only once.

The hotel was tented for fumigation during the close down.

Ahh so that explains why the beach view webcam hasn't been working.

Needed it badly, the corridors were like roach parties when I was there last May.

This was to get rid of termites eating the hardwood doors, cabinets and furniture, all of the corridors at the MK are open to the outdoors which means fumigation would have no effect on bugs coming in from the exterior, that's just Hawaii.

In my communications with them during the past week, they indicated that they intend to re-open July 1.

However, this is still obviously contingent on the governor not extending the travel ban past June 30th...

Yes thats what I heard as well reg. July ( they said email June 25th for update)

I did also enquire about their 2021 renovation schedule and was told this:
RENOVATION FOR 2021
The MAIN BUILDING WILL BE CLOSED from 3/22 to 7/18 - (4MONTHS)
The BEACHFRONT WING WILL BE CLOSED from 7/19 to 10/3 (ABOUT 3MONTHS)

Do not know if the wing not being renovated is available during these time, or also how disruptive this work will be if you are staying during it.

It seems they are still taking bookings for the beachfront wing after 3/22/21.

Wonder if they will do any work on the pool?

Thanks for your insight.

Cheers.

As tattikat2 has discovered award availability is unlikely to open up between 3/22 and 7/18. Likely to be limited until 10/3/21 as well.

For those hoping for a July 1 reopening date - there is absolutely no indication by the State the quarantine will be lifted at that time. I'd expect the hotel needs weeks to prepare for a reopening (recall staff - supplies - training - new social distancing procedures, etc). Given July 1 is only 4 1/2 weeks away - I'm really skeptical it can be pulled off.

Hopefully I'm wrong as I'm essentially trapped in Hawaii (and yes, worst places to be trapped - but stuck nonetheless)
