That is a bit longer timeline than I thought they projected last August. I was thinking a building was going into reconstruction this spring. Guess if they don't start soon they might as well wait till summer is over.

They're starting April 15. At least that's what it says when you go to book a room.

They come in white and orange; we got one of each. The white bottle does show dirt.

When I was there during the third week of January, a backhoe was building a sand barrier in front of Hau Tree to help protect it and the other structures. A bartender told me that the swells were predicted to be the biggest in about ten years.

Completed a three-night stay on Sunday. They've lost lots of sand but some of it came back, and they were able to put out two rows of beach chairs on Saturday/Sunday (there had only been room for one row on Thursday/Friday).

Agree the new water bottles are better than the old ones. They still haven't replaced the custom orange flip-flops; apparently their stock was lost in the fire.

I've concluded the front desk here is just completely lame. The guy who checked us in handed us a cardboard folio without keys, which we only discovered upon reaching our room at the very far end of the Beachfront wing. Was refused any late check-out (only asked for 1 pm), despite property being around 60% occupancy. And they've shorted me about 52k points. AGAIN (second stay in a row shorted over 50k).

Still, the beachfront setting is unparalleled. We've been trying to figure out where to go during the renovations, and there's no real equivalent.

At the MK now, the beach is much smaller than I remember at any time in the past. Been coming here for years and I usually stay either this time of year or in December after the Honolulu Marathon so it is more than just season differences.

Last time I stayed here I had rats in the room eating my food off the counter, this time it’s ants. I can clearly hear a loud flush of the toilet every time the room above me does their business. Golf course no longer participates in apps offering discounts so it’s $295 a round plus rentals for $75 where as I could get it under $150 on apps in the past. Bonvoy breakfast is smaller than last time I was here in December 2022 which of course was way downgraded from the full buffet they offered before.

It’s still got the beach (hopefully) which is why I’ll probably be back once the renovations are done, but hotels for less than half the price in Asia are twice as nice. I’ve always defended this hotel but with the recent rate hike and the issues I’ve had, it’s just not worth the price anymore. I’m also sure the renovations won’t bring the price down😂. That said, lying on a beach chair overlooking the waves and the bay is hard to beat.

Was at the hotel in early March 2024. I agree that a lot of sand has been lost from the beach. As a result, not only is the beach much narrower than before, the beach also slopes at a significant angle. I.e. your recliner is going to be at an angle, sloping towards the water, and not flat. This was not comfortable for me.

The water pressure in the showers is also pretty poor. I hope that this is fixed in the renovation.

Got an email about the renovations beginning today. Looks like they are starting with the Main Tower, golf course, and Copper bar first.

Number 3 is going to be closed for the entire renovation. Hopefully that space will get more robust operating hours when the renovation is complete.

There’s not a super clear timeline on the site, but the FAQs give some detail on what will be closed and when.
