My post was removed from a property specific thread, since it is more applicable to this one, I will repost here.

I've only stayed at the 2 I mentioned above [Westin Galleria and JW] and would recommend both with a slight edge to the JW.

I have a friend who only stays at the Hyatt Regency around the corner and he really likes it there - he's there every week so gets a good rate with them and all the staff knows him. He is Globalist too because of all those nights, which I am not. I have Plat with Marriott so for now I'm sticking with them.

I booked JW Marriott Houston by The Galleria and Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District for about the same price.

Trying to decide between the two. Leaning towards the Marriott since it sounds like the M Club is open compared to the Executive Lounge over at JW. Otherwise don't see much differences.

Anyone have thoughts here?

Vastly different locations as the traffic on Southwest Freeway can be terrible - what are you trying to do in Houston?

WIll be coming off of a cruise ship in Galveston and want to check out the Space Center and not be rushed to catch a flight the same day. So really just staying a night to grab an afternoon flight the next day.
Have 2 little ones with me, so probably check out some child friendly locations.

If you want zoos, museums, and parks, then go for the Marriott Museum District. If you want a massive mall with an ice skating rink, then go for the JW. Though, depending on the day of the week, which airport you are flying out of, and what you classify as afternoon, you should budget at least 1.5 hours to get to the airport in traffic. I can't imagine doing activities on the day of checkout. If you're flying out of IAH, the IAH Marriott is actually pretty nice and is directly connected to the terminals. I haven't been to the Hobby Marriott.

Thanks, I'll stay around the Museum District then.
We're flying out of IAH like 5pm-ish. So should have some time to look around.

I didn't even consider staying near the airport since it looks like it's much further away from downtown :/

Even just a morning walk or kiddie train ride through Hermann Park could be nice if the weather works out. It might seem a bit odd to walk through the hospital blocks, but the park is quite close and generally a pleasant part of town, especially if you reframe it as a place where folks are getting better, rather than being sick.

Stayed at the Aloft Katy Mills last weekend for a wedding... my advice, just don't. Shame they dont seem to want to let me post a review to the Marriott site.

No elite recognition, didnt ask what I wanted for welcome gift
Room TV stuck on the welcome channel (which had someone else's name on it)
Toothbrush cup in the bathroom was black, picked it up, full of white residue
Shower head clogged with calcium/hard water

Lobby bar didnt open at all. May be for the best as they wanted $14 for 12oz bud light at the cash bar at the wedding...

Hi TXJeepGuy,

I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with this stay. If you could sent a Private Message with your full name, contact information, and reservation confirmation number, we'd like to follow up.

Thanks,
