If you only have carryons then that should be piece of cake... you can go from your arrival gate directly to the Seaborne gate and check in there without having to leave security and go through that again. If you have checked luggage, then you'll have to go out to baggage to claim it and re-check in at the ticket counter and go through security. 2:15 should be ok although on the tighter end for claiming and rechecking depending on the day/time and how slow things are moving.

Hello! We just made reservations for a visit to your resort for January of 2015. I am a Marriott Platinum Rewards member and are very much looking forward to our stay! We will be flying from San Juan to Beef Island for transfer then have 6 nights on Scrub Island.

We have been reading about some financial and mgmt changes taking place. Will they impact our experience at your resort?

Thank you!
Mr. Vker

Hello!

We're delighted to hear you've booked a stay in January 2015 at Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina.

You are correct in that the resort is currently going through a financial restructuring, from which we will emerge within the next 60 days. During this reorganization, Scrub Island Resort has continued to operate at high levels of hospitality and service with the full support of Marriott International, as well as our investors.

To further underscore our commitment to not only maintain but to elevate the guest experience on Scrub Island, we've hired a new managing director, Anura Dewapura, for the Resort. Mr. Dewapura is an award-winning leader and a Certified Hotel Administrator who has been in the hotel and tourism industry for the past 30 years. Anura has also brought on board a new executive chef, Michael Wedderburn, and a new food and beverage director, Edwin Torres. As a testament to the resort's service and staff, we were just recognized by Conde Nast as #13 in their Reader Poll "Top 25 Caribbean Resorts!"

I'm thrilled you've reached out to us, as I can assure you that your upcoming stay will be a wonderful experience. We look forward to your visit. In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay in touch!

Warmest regards,
Norwood Smith
VP, Sales & Marketing
Mainsail Lodging & Development

P.S. Please check out our newest hotel in Tampa, the Epicurean, which is also a member of the Autograph Collection!

I am really, really curious as to what comes out of all of this...my fiancé and I have our honeymoon scheduled for 9 nights in August. I won't lie, I'm a little worried after reading the following article.

In bankruptcy, anything can happen at anytime and suddenly, no matter what is being currently promised or thought is going to happen in the future. I wouldn't put down any money, even a down payment on a credit card might get hung up for years (been there). Maybe make alternative arrangements as well, just in case?

And would one expect a reply other than the one above? If the entire thing shutters, MI would have no obligation to do anything (perhaps try to offer alternative accommodations to preserve its brand reputation?)

The newly minted Mrs CALMSP and I just returned from BVI and Scrub Harbor. It certainly lived up to the expectation for being private and time for relaxation.

Arrival in EIS

By the time we arrived from our flight in SJU to EIS, we took the 21 second cab ride (pre-arranged by hotel) from the airprot to Trellis Bay dock. While we waited for the boat to pick us up, I was able to grab some RedStripe from the bar right next to the dock. Once the boat arrived, it was a quick 6-7 minutes till we got to the hotel.

Hotel arrival

Rum Punch upon arrival! Literally, we stepped off the boat and a gentleman was already waiting on the dock with our drinks. After our check-in, the nice lady escorted us to our room..........aka.........large palace. We were in the Governors Suite, which is a 1 bedroom unit that has an enormous bathroom, full kitchen, with w/d, a half bath, living room, dinning room table and bar stools.

Only down side to our room was that it had a conjoining room that had another couple in it. We apparently got in trouble as the couple called the front desk and complained that the tv was blaring. However, we were watching a movie on the iPad (tv was out). So, you can clearly hear anything between the two rooms.

Platinum arrival gift: full bottle of wine, cheese & crackers.

Hotel food

I was very surprised at the pricing of the food / drinks. We had brought an overabundance of money thinking the pricing was going to be outrageous. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the restaurant at the pool was still in the $15-$25 range for lunch and dinner (obviously some higher, depending on what you order). Drinks were priced fair as well, with the Rum Punches going for $8.

We only spent one dinner at Caravela (closed on wednesdays) and enjoyed lobsters that we picked out of the trap on the dock. Massive lobsters! Which in turn results in a massive $$. But it was worth it.

Since we had a full kitchen, we stored up on plenty of snacks at the grocery store at the hotel, which was nice to have during the day and at night while sitting on the balcony enjoying the view!

Hotel activities

We did not do much, as our only goal of the visit was complete relaxation after all the wedding activities and the work that we both had been doing back in the office. The best part about the island is the beach on the other side, which has private cabanas on the beach, with a small pool, bar and bartender, and complete silence, with only the waves making noise. A perfect setting.

Overall experience

Both of us have said we would go back in a heartbeat. The water so pristine, being so secluded and spending time with one another can't be beat. (although, maybe thats not the case after 30 years of marriage? ) Although, b/c I am a Marriott brat, should this property lose its Autograph status, I suppose I'd have to find somewhere else!

Hello all. Hoping that I can get some advise from someone who has stayed at Scrub Island. Wife and I will be traveling to the Caribbean next March to celebrate an anniversary (we were married in the USVI) and were considering bringing the kids with us (8yrs and 4 yrs old). Planning on using MR points. Originally, we looked at the Ritz on St Thomas where we have stayed in the past but it was 360,000 points which would come close to tapping us out. Scrub Island would be 240,000 points for a room that lists as more expensive. Our kids are well behaved and quiet, but there is little mention on the hotel website or on the forums about whether it is an appropriate resort for children or enough to do for them.

I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have.

When my husband and I were there a year ago, we saw a few kids at the resort (the pool does have a small waterslide), but it seemed to be sailing families that had stopped there for the day rather than families actually staying at the resort. Other than the waterslide, the resort does not really offer much for children. Also, with more than two people, you would need to get the one bedroom suite as the regular guest rooms do not have any additional sleeping space (and I believe they are all king bed rooms), so that would probably put you over the points it would take to stay at the Ritz. That combined with the additional effort that it takes to get to scrub island (either a small commuter flight and ferry or a taxi/ferry/taxi/ferry combination), St Thomas is probably the better choice.

If you and your wife ever want to get away by yourselves, Scrub Island is fantastic for that, but probably not the best choice for small children.

Thanks for your feedback. I think I agree with you. Scrub may be next years mommy/daddy alone week It does sound amazing and I hope that they emerge from their financial difficulties without any problems.

We are now leaning towards one of the studio villas at the Westin St John. We've been there before (for our wedding) and know what to expect (not much) but would be at the resort very little time.

We stayed at the Westin for two days on our way to Scrub Island - that would be a good choice with kids. Check out their facebook page - I remember they posted a weekly schedule of activities, many of which were geared towards kids.

Any update on what happened from the bankruptcy hearings? We're considering a trip this summer to the resort.

Thread bump.

Also, was wondering if anybody has stayed in the villas at Scrub? They look great but they can't be reserved online. And, wondering if these can be reserved with points?

Thinking of combining a few night stay here with a trip to St. Thomas.

Thanks!

Im curious as to the bankruptcy, as I have a week booked in march. I'm holding off booking my flight too beef island.

I've seen the villas available for rent through the Marriott.com website but have never seen them available for points. I'm booked into a 2 bedroom suite on points though, so I know those are available.
