Hotel Website: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Autograph Collection
Official List of Cosmopolitan Bonvoy Elite Benefits: https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/marriott-bonvoy-at-the-cosmopolitan-of-las-vegas

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, the only charges that qualify for Points are as follows:
- Room rate, room service food and beverage, in-room movies, phone calls and in-room minibar purchases
- Points cannot be earned on any other purchases at hotel outlets or for hotel services

The Cosmopolitan is a "resort," so basically the only elite benny is a possible upgrade. Elites are not exempt from the resort fee

Resort fee is $39+tax effective 01/01/2019. Also as of that date, parking (self & valet) is complimentary for hotel guests.

Cosmopolitan is exempt from providing free wifi to Plats per Marriott's T&Cs, however it is included with the mandatory $39 daily resort fee so there is still no extra charge to any guest for using it.

Platinums receive:

* use of Platinum check-in area (to the left of main desks)

* Platinum arrival gift is $10FB coupon or 1,000 points

* room upgrade (space available) - better luck on mid-week stays than weekend stays. sometimes a 'sandwich' (ie, bribe) to front desk does the trick.

* free tea/coffee 6am - noon in the plat lobby check-in area

* Wicked Spoon: Marriott Rewards Platinums (and PPs) get to use preferred line and get 15% discount when staying at the property. Just show your MR Plat or PP card.
You can book through Virtuoso as well as Amex FHR for complimentary breakfast buffet at Wicked spoon.

Resort fee:

* $39 (+ tax) per day for resort fee, which includes gym access, local + long distance calls, Wifi, pool access. The resort fee is not waived.

Receiving Bonvoy Points for a Stay:

Many have reported needing to follow up to have Marriott Bonvoy points manually posted post stay (they do not typically post automatically.) A tip is to email [email protected] shortly after a stay asking them to manually forward your folio to Marriott Bonvoy for processing.

Hat tip to billycwhatup for this:

* Identity points and MR points can not be earned on the same stay

Other tips

The Terrace Suites are the most common room type and are classified as studio and one bedroom, with options for King, 2 Queens with or without a fountain view. They are essentially the same size, however (10 sq ft difference), but the layouts differ.

The King Studio Suite has a standard bathroom with shower and tub, a living room area with large sitting area and an L shaped sofa and the bed is in a separate area, though not separated.

The King One BR Suite has the same kind of living room area, with the bedroom separated by sliding doors and the bathroom is larger, with a "soaking tub".

If you get a terrace suite of any kind with 2 Queens, the living area will be smaller.

And unless your room type is described as "fountain view", you aren't guaranteed it, though Platinum status will get you upgraded on check in if they have one available.

If you book any of these room types and want to aim higher, I would try a giving the receptionist a 50$ "sandwich", and ask if any wraparounds upgrades would be available. If they say yes, there is a good chance that it will be a wraparound facing south-east or south-west, which for me would be a no go. Taste in view is personal of course, but for me the fountain-Eiffel tower view are so much nicer than the south facing views. Also when you would have the choice between a low level wraparound or high level terrace suite, I would still take the high level terrace suite, because a number of floors on the east tower are blocked by the big Bellagio sign. (see youtube vids).

If you really want a high level wraparound then you probably would have to pay, which can sometimes be not that much. If I'm not mistaken I think they offered me a wraparound at 150$ per night more, but we originally booked a 1 bedroom terrace room without view.

Last tip : If you would get the choice of wraparound I would definitely take a high floor east tower one, facing north-east. That would give you bellagio fountain + eiffel tower view, but also a good portion of the south strip.

I have earned points on F&B spend while staying elsewhere in the past, so that may be possilbe, but doubtful the room rate will earn you anything if booked through a wholesaler/OTA.

When I said "only" the context was hotel rates. Of course for on-property spend anyone can provide the Identity card or take any receipts to the Identity desk to get the points regardless.

I ended up earning about 3,000 Identity points on my recent stay. Mostly from slots, some food, and room rate. Only been home for about a week and a half and they already sent me an offer for three comped nights. Even weekend nights were 0$ on the booking calendar. I lost a few hundred on slots, but not a bad trade if I get 3 free weekend nights out of it.

Autograph lounge is very useful for check in and check out, especially if arriving or departing at a peak time.

I think I got a slight upgrade at check in. I booked a Terrace 1 BR, but got something slightly different. I don't even see the room type I got listed on their site. It was similar to the rectangular terrace 1 BR that I've stayed in before, but since the room was on the wedge of the Chelsea tower it had more space and two full bathrooms. A little overkill to have two full baths in a room that size, but I'm not complaining.

One thing to watch out for: they told me I'd get a $10 food credit for my Marriott status, but it wasn't on the final bill. Didn't notice I wasn't credited until later after I checked out.

Glad you got the 3 free nights -- and "real" ones, not just select nights. Slot play is probably the easiest to get play-based comp offers from IME (I am not a slots player but travel with those who are sometimes).

As for the $10 credit, it's not a separate line item on the bill, it's just deducted from something sort of at random. So instead of a $38 charge for room service, it'll just show $28 with no overt mention of the credit.

This is the "Terrace Studio Angle". I've not stayed in one, but will do so at end of this month. Looking forward to trying it... the Terrace Suite is overkill and I'm not a huge fan of the Terrace 1 Br, so this might be just right.

This would have been my answer. Consider yourself lucky whenever you get points (or benefits) on third-party (OTA) bookings. Overall, with regard to hotel/casino loyalty programs you are the safest booking directly or via a travel agent.

Slots are for sure the easiest way. But, you have to weigh the theoretical loss to really understand if it's even worthwhile. I mean, it can be like saying you got a great deal on something that actually cost you 3x++ as much. The key, if you desire to play slots, or are a slot player, is to be strategic about it. I am often amazed at how much slot players hurt themselves not being strategic. Getting free rooms when they should be getting free suites. Getting $100 free play when it should be $500. Getting $50 F&B when it should be $300. I could go on and on and on.

The casino loyalty game is "real," but it is 1000000x more nuanced than the travel loyalty "game."

I double checked the bill and the $10 was not taken off. The two meals I charged to the room were at Tekka Bar and District Donuts. I assume those should have been eligible for the $10 credit, but maybe I'm mistaken.

MGM sent me an offer today for 3 or 4 comped nights, depending on the property, but their calendar isn't as wide open as Cosmo's offer. I probably did 85% of my slot spend at Cosmo (and lost most of it there), but I was definitely up at MGM properties, so it's nice to see they gave me a decent comp offer too.

Blackstone is looking to sell the Cosmo with Apollo being floated as a potential buyer. From one mega REPE fund to another...

Vegas RE sales have really heated up a lot lately. Doubt this would impact the guest experience for the hotel terribly much if Apollo ends up actually being the buyer

No. The Cosmo is carved out from Bonvoy's normal rules in Section 1.2.a.xiii of the T&Cs:

A. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas participates in the Loyalty Program as follows:

(1) The only charges that qualify for Points are the following: Room rate, room service food and beverage, in-room movies, phone calls and in-room minibar purchases. Points cannot be earned on any other purchases at hotel outlets or for hotel services.

(2) Points may be redeemed for all Qualifying Stays (defined in Section 2.1.d.) at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

(3) Limited benefits are provided as described in Section 1.3, Section 3.7, Section 4, except for the breakfast option associated with the Elite Welcome Gift benefit which is not available, and Section 6.4.

(4) Members who hold dual membership in both the Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Identity Program can choose to receive the benefits of, and apply their room charges and in-room consumable earnings to, either program, but cannot concurrently receive the benefits of nor apply earnings to both. Marriott Bonvoy and the Identity Program are two separate loyalty programs; therefore accounts may not be linked or merged. Members may elect to earn Marriott Bonvoy Points and receive Marriott Bonvoy program benefits by providing their Membership Number at the time of reservation.

Cosmo just sold to MGM

“According to the report the deal will separate ownership of the property from the hotel and casino operations, which are being sold to MGM Resorts International for about $1.6 billion. A partnership that includes a Blackstone real-estate investment trust is acquiring the property for about $4 billion. The buyers' group also includes Stonepeak Partners, an infrastructure-focused investment company, and the Cherng Family Trust, a Las Vegas-based family office for the founders of the Panda Restaurant Group.”

My hunch is program will leave Marriott for MGM brand. Will be sad if it happens.

I, too, will be sad. I’m planning to stay there in early February. How long do these sales normally take? What are the chances I can get my Marriott points at that one, I wonder?
