Las Vegas Cosmopolitan Hotel [Master Thread]

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=11479646

Cosmopolitan's going to be an Autograph hotel.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hotel-casino is turning to Marriott International Inc. for customers.

The under-construction resort on Wednesday said it has sealed a distribution agreement with Marriott to be part of its Autograph Collection, a set of independent upscale hotels the franchiser launched last year.

The partnership gives the nearly 3,000-room Cosmopolitan access to Marriott's vast customer database, and gives loyal Marriott customers their first option to stay in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip and win rewards points.

Cosmopolitan officials say it will be the largest resort in the Autograph Collection and its only property with gambling.

Interesting note and thanks for sharing. ^

It does change the dymanic as IIRC the Ren was a short distance off the strip, which it actually promotes as a good thing and in some ways it probably is. I'd researched the Ren but ultimately my LAS trip never came to pass. :(

This is great! Seems like 1/3 of the rooms open up on 12/15, and I will be in Vegas 12/16 - 12/19. I wonder when/if we can make reservations.

Excellent decision Marriott. There have been very few choices in Vegas, for any chain, and this is a total flagship property.

Any guesses on what rewards category the Cosmopolitan will be?

This news A) makes me want to travel to Vegas more frequently B) stay at more Marriott Properties worldwide to earn free nights here.

Finally a majorchain will have a property on the strip.

To be fair...SPG had the Planet Hollywood for a good long while...blech!

Can't wait to see what this property is all about!^

I was a PH a few weeks ago (I live in Vegas) and I feel the gaming floor has changed (not a layout, but the feel of the clientele - it used to be "hip/trendy" and I think with their recent legal issues with the clubs there, it's gond down hill) with Harrah's taking over the hotel.

There are a few big hotels in Vegas that do it right - Pallazzo, Venetian, Wynn, Encore, where there's a focus on the hotel (and service) and the casino doesn't run the hotel (every MGM and Harrah's product) - hopefully, this will be one of them! ^

Excited about this as well. The most amazing quote I saw in the article ?

"It gets me a position on the seventh largest retail website in the world and by far the largest in terms of hotels."

Wow - very very cool news. Thanks for posting^.

This is great news. I usually go to Vegas with friends, and they look at me funny when I suggest staying at a "boring" Marriott property just to collect a few points.

We've stayed at the JW Marriott in Summerlin which is fantastic, but off the strip. Just recently stayed at both the Marriott Suites, and the Renaissance. Both are pretty blah.

However, I just recently stayed at Vdara (not affiliated with Marriott) and it was incredible in every aspect. It was chic, elegant, and had personality. I'm hoping Cosmopolitan will share these characteristics of Vdara, and allow me to collect some Marriott points at the same time.

The two-tower resort will open without 987 of its rooms, with most of them opening incrementally through July next year. Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin has said the delay will give more time to finish interior work and move furniture.

The company said Wednesday that 19 rooms would open after July 2011, when "management deems appropriate."
so opening with 2,008 rooms on dec 15

id imagine there are some larger units in that 968 and 19

Any ideas on when this will be added to Marriott's reservation system? Looking to make some Vegas rezzies, but it doesn't up on Marriott's site.

SacTownGuy Oct 18, 2010 1:48 pm

This is good news. I hope it pops up in the Marriott res system soon.
