just checked-in yesterday. the front desk agent was nice and helpful. took 500 starpoints as platinum welcome amenity.

quite dissapointed with the room, even i got upgraded from traditional to deluxe room on high floor. didn't get the view of Empire state building but W hoboken instead. i don't mind that it has to be a suite, because im travelling alone. but this quite likes a japanese hotel room.

the room is very small, quite smaller than the Westin grand central. bed is comfortable though. one bottled water provided. my room is next to the elevator but i didn't hear noise at all.

the bathroom is even smaller, no amenities or toiletries provided other than soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. this is the worst 4-star hotel i've ever stayed at.

location is ok, but personally i prefer the location of westin grand central

the overall service is quite good though, but nothing special.

breakfast in club lounge is nice too.

overall this is a so-so stay. and i would not return to stay again except its room rate is lower than 200$ net a night.

Just stayed here over the weekend (26th-28th) Booked a double room on the club floor with points. They put me in 2201 which is top floor corner, however the single window faced a brick wall so literally no view of anything. Room was small but I expected that in NYC, it was clean and in good condition. The view from the club lounge is amazing. Huge outdoor terrace, open all weekend and was never crowded. Coffee machines made a nice range of espresso drinks. Food was good.

So we had a pleasant stay, up until the folio under my door showed they charged me $118 a night for the room. I took it down to the front desk and they said I booked cash & points. Which I would have, but that wasn't available. I was running late and didn't have time to deal with it on the spot. 3 days later I'm still trying to get someone from accounting in the hotel to return a call or e-mail. Central reservations confirms and shows I paid points.

Not a bad stay but I'm going to try somewhere else next time.

My apologies for the miscue and the inconvenience, but I would skip trying to contact the accounting office of the hotel and file a formal complaint with Corporate Customer Service. Since they are going to need credit card information that is best not shared via email, I would call them at 800-328-6242 during regular business hours.

Thank you for the advice William. I called the Corporate line and spoke with a nice person who said they needed to call the revenue manager at the hotel. I was put on hold for the attempt. They couldn't reach them, so asked me to call back again tomorrow. So now I'm going to be going on my 5th phone call to try and get this resolved.

This just doesn't seem right......why can't/won't the hotel return a voicemail?

They should have simply entered a file on your behalf and walked away clean, IMHO. That puts the onus on the property to contact you on a minimal deadline. If you want to send me your account number, I'd be glad to check on why that didn't happen.

Not to complicate matters, especially when they have been unresponsive in the first instance, but maybe you can call their bluff and ask for the return the difference in points so you can have C&P after all! ;)

Pay attention to the deadline to file a dispute with your credit card company as a last resort if nothing is corrected by then.

I get the feeling the revenue manager of this property is really based in India and handles 50+ properties and has no clue as to the market conditions of the area, nor the SPG program.

I'm staying here for a weekend this summer. Is it possible to find free street parking from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. I'm willing to walk a few blocks back to the hotel. Any info would help, I don't know the hotel or the area, any luck or experiences finding a spot; street names? Thanks!

I've already checked the primospot website, great tool!

Yes, it is possible. From 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, some of the streets that normally have restrictions are open and free parking. I used to park on Tribeca streets almost every weekend. Try the streets just west of Varick and south of Canal (e.g. Vestry and Laight going East-West, Hudson and Greenwich St going North-South). Will be within a 5-minute walk from hotel.

Isn't there such a thing as resident only street parking in Manhattan? I would've thought that free street parking was non-existent in Manhattan. Weekdays is a whole other animal I imagine...

Tribeca seems interesting, I think this Sheraton (well the location) will be more interesting than say a hotel around Times Square.

I stayed there for the first time a few weeks ago and liked the location and the hotel.

Staff was super nice. Lounge was decent enough, and the outdoor patio was nice. Excellent view northward. Room was tiny, disappointingly so. But I was alone. Location? Walked to a great lunch one day when I was alone in Chinatown. So close. Also, since I was flying to/from EWR, the Holland Tunnel access was excellent.

It's a great location. Canal Street itself is not so picturesque, but as Eastbay1K noted, views to north are superb. Cross Canal Street and you are in Soho with great restaurants and shopping. From there a few blocks to the right are Nolita and Little Italy. About 10 minutes walk and you can be in West/Greenwich Village.

Bit of a hot mess right now......
 
Greetings from the Sheraton Tribeca:

Our room requests were met, the hotel is quite friendly and the room is a Sheraton sweet sleeper bed that does indeed put me to sleep.

The strangest thing is that for the last 4 nights the bar keeps warning that we are unable to charge any drinks or food to our rooms? Tonight I asked to speak to a manager on duty any was told that there wasn't any? This made me somewhat uncomfortable....... Who is heading our ship I wanted to ask...but alas.....it must be no-one. All this for $40+.

So tonight after we ordered a bottle of wine in the middle of the lobby, at the bar, we were forced to pay cash. I asked about starpoints and they told me I had to talk to the hotel who's wifi has failed in the lobby now 4 nights in a row leading to this? for the last 4 nights of drinks all I can pay is cash. Apparently I am forced to pay cash and NOT sign to my room....which is a pain and an inconvenience. So our lobby bar tab is non points accrued?

A hotel without a manager leaves me concerned.....However as a note to travelers.....just notice that while this hotel offers good value and friendly service, there is a missing piece that is quite odd and off putting at this time....it is just a hot mess with having a drink at the bar. If I am not able to sign a drink to my room then I might as well drink somewhere else. It is a good thing that SOHO is just two blocks North. That said, why are they willing to lose the revenue like this? it just doesn't make sense.

I agree with you about TriBeCa, as we have chosen to live in this neighborhood. TriBeCa is known for its restaurants and it has some of the best restaurants in NYC. Just south of TriBeCa is the World Trade Center site, and we recommend to all of our friends that they must go to Century 21, who, according to Zagat is the best outlet in the world! For parking, I would recommend going west on Canal to Greenwich street, where you should make a left. Some of the locations on and off Greenwich have free parking for the entire weekend. Also note that in NYC meters may be on one side of the street and the other side of the street has 24 hour free parking.
