I drove by, early July and was very surprised by the building that I saw, next to the road. I understand that it is still under construction, but it was hard to imagine it as part of the Luxury Collection.
I am not even sure that it has an access to the beach.

For those who stayed at the Le Meridien Chiang Mai, you might recognize the Chief Concierge, when the new hotel opens.

FYI, I believe that "Vana Belle" came from the name of the wife (Khunying Wanna) of the hotel's owner, Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi (who owns several Le Meridien hotels in Thailand and the Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, who makes the Chang beer).

Thanks for the questions, which I will leave for Thyetus (Starwood Lurker II) to answer since he is in a better position to do so.

Just emailed the hotel as am planning stay mid Feb 2013, cannot book yet but opening promotional rates start at THB 12,500++ for lowest grade (junior suite with pool) to include breakfast and 2,000 THB credit, did email requesting info about plat upgrades but no reply as of yet, my feeling is that being all suite property they will not be overly generous to plats (similar to W Retreat Koh Samui), not sure when they will take bookings but they do have rates on board so should happen December 1 as scheduled.

The property is on Chaweng Noi beach (think this stretch is better than that of W KS but not sure)

Don't know category as we always have paid rates, but imagine it will be 7 or higher.

Thanks for info

Based on the opening offer rate i think it's cat 6+.

And personally I believe that this property has nicer beach than W samui.

We are proud to announce that Vana Belle, Koh Samui is now part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The resort is accepting reservations as of today, September 13, 2012, for future dates on or after January 20, 2013. Please note that since this is a new activation, we will not expect availability on the web until later today.

SPG Category 6.

I have no idea, but properties often schedule groups between when they are ready to occupy and ready to actually open to the public.
