Because casinos only deal with bills now. The only change you will find is at a change machine where they will cash out your chit.

Dollar Coin Question

Hello all, my first post. I've enjoyed reading all the posts and thought it was time to chime in myself.

I love the idea of the Presidential coin program although I have not done it myself just yet. I normally don't carry a balance but had some unexpected bills and have had to carry a balance the past few months and sure did not want to add several thousand in coins to the card.

Anyway, I've been reading about how everyone distributes the coins and for those of you who use them at the corner store or at restaurants and so on I have a question. Aren't you just using the coins in place of where you would have normally charged the purchase and got the miles anyway? I realize if you take them to the bank and redeem them that's a good deal but just using them at various locations seems like a lot of work to get the same miles.

Thoughts????

They're great for things which you wouldn't/couldn't charge: Tips (like a tip jar), cash tips (if you want to give the server the option of not reporting them), farmers markets, foot carts, vending machines, etc.

Dont know about others but I use plastic wherever they take them. But I "try" to use coins wherever they don't accept plastic ...

I tried Vegas not casinos. My bad.

I would be driving: so maybe bring 5000 and cash in 1000 coin increments would be okay.

Last visit to the Monte Carlo in LV there were very clear signs at the cashier cage that they would not any accept coins beyond very small qualities (the exact wording escapes me right now). I couldn't help but wonder how many people had tried to bring in mint coins in bulk.

4 new presidents are in:

Millard Fillmore (Y13)
Franklin Pierce (Y14)
James Buchanan (Y15)
Abraham Lincoln (Y16)

I just put some of each on order - nice to see "new" faces.

yes-nice to see some new faces. Also, when you "now" place an order as a guest, it doesn't somehow KNOW and tie the new order to an established US Mint account.

Most of us use them at places that don't take credit cards. Farmers markets, fast food, cash only restaurants, vending machines, Aldi grocery store, kids allowance, kid to mow the lawn, tips, anyone who would rather get paid in cash.

I also gave some out as gifts to all the kids at a kids birthday party. Put one of each kind that I had in a little sack and put a ribbon on it. The kids like them because they are shiny and they are money. The parents like them because they are educational and money.

I have not paid attention to the world of using a coinstar machine to get lowes certs or itunes cards. I realize this may have been discussed many times in here somewhere but if there's anyone who cares to PM me or post here what exactly to do to get either the lowes or itunes with one of those machines I would love to find out. I have a nephew who loves itunes and this could be a nice gift for him, and his dad, my stringent brother, will NOT allow any songs in his house that were not BOUGHT; and I am about to embark on the lofty project of trying to make a finished basement. If I do this, it will require many many trips to Lowes for supplies!

ah now THIS explains the mint's recent 2 week long slow down that seems to have subsided to normalcy!!!!

Now that I think about it, I remember people on AOL talking about taking loose change to casinos years ago. There used to be a tightwad discussion board and I remember someone commenting that the casinos had change counters (which didn't make sense they would count coins since casinos used tokens back then) and to get their change jars cashed out, they would take them to casinos and have it done for free.

As money hungry as casinos are though, if a person decided they wanted to gamble $2K and wanted the points and no cash advance fees and used the mint for their gambling money, I am surprised they would take a chance on losing that much in potential gambling income.

Lowes info: https://sslprotected.com/coinstar/Lo...sGiftCard.html

itunes info: https://sslprotected.com/coinstar/iT...sGiftCard.html

Do a search for machines in the upper-right corner, and it'll show you which machines in your area are equipped to distribute the e-certs.

Heads Up.....

Right after I posted the info, I noticed on the page that it says the bonus is good through 12/30/10. I'm sure some of you are aware, but an FYI to the rest! You can likely still get the e-certs though, just no bonus.
